    The most the ADF will give you is a few hundred pounds. As mrcow has said, even if you can get a car, there is no way that is going to cover the additional expenses. You need to speak to your employer and see what options they can offer.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • hi thank you for all your replies I dont have anyone who can loan me a car and I know running a car is expensive but I just thought I could buy a old banger to get me through the first couple of months until I can afford to buy something better with the wages I save ,and thought that the adf which I have read about o this forum would be able to help
    Thank You

    in a nutshell NO!
    ADF is to remove small barriers to employment NOT £300 to everyone. It will not cover any costs to do with a car except a small amount of petrol. No insurance MOT or purchase. Rules on ADF have tightened and I expect the fund to go altogether under the new government everything else is. Today we have been told no more post it notes so cut backs are high!

    Get a loan based on your future salary to buy one. Hire a car in the short-term or see if you live in a place that has a car share scheme. If the ownership of the car with your ex is in dispute, speak to a solicitor or post a query on a consumer or legal forum to find out how to get it back.

    Its up to the its called advisor discretionary fund because its up to the advisor what its for. I would ask, can only say no.

    Found this
    Typically, ADF payments are made for things such as:

    * Interview clothes. Without decent interview clothing, a jobseeker may not secure employment;
    * Tools. A jobseeker may have found work, but may need help in purchasing tools;
    * Clothing to start work. They may require a particular item of clothing that a jobseeker may not have;
    * Travel expenses until first wage;
    * Birth certificates to use as I.D. when registering with an agency.

    So buying a car might fit under the travel expenses.
    I read someone got money to mot their car and someone got money to do their basic motorcyle test and buy crash helmet , waterproofs etc but cant find it now.

    How about telling them that you accept the job, and will hire a car if needs be whilst you source a vehicle?

    there are firm rules now as to what ADF cannot buy it is not down the individual adviser. As i said car and associated costs are not allowed.

    How about a moped?
    Most areas of the country now have a scheme called wheels to work, they go by other names but thats what the one down here is called, they loan you a moped for a few quid a week untill you can afford your own transport.
