sabotage of my auction

I had three items on buy it now, which have been purchased but the person who has purchased them has no intention of paying as they just didn't want them bought by some one as they have got it into their head that the items were got from freecycle.

I have e-mailed them and told them they definetly were not got from freecycle but they won't believe me and have now bought them just to make a point.

(the person involved is a moderator from freecycle) I can't file a npb until after the 11th September but what would you do.

I'm really lost for what to do about this matter.

  • There's nothing you can do until the seven day rule.
Since they bought three of your auctions they should get three unpaid strikes and be booted out.
    What is there feedback like?
What were you selling to arouse their suspicion?

  • This was an e-mail I received from my local board:

I have just had cause to ban a member of this group who was asking
for items stating they were for her own use and selling them on an
online internet auction site at a profit.

Occasionally list members will reply to offers or post wanteds for
items they do not intend to use personally. Whether they resell or
redistribute the item, for their own profit or not, these members
are termed resellers for purposes of this list.

While claiming or asking for items in order to resell or
redistribute them does not violate Freecycle(TM) guidelines, some
members prefer to give their items directly to the people who will
use them. Resellers MUST disclose their intention to
resell/redistribute any item when responding to an offer. In addition, resellers
are also required to state their intention to resell/redistribute when making
wanted posts. List moderators reserve the right to immediately ban members for
failure to disclose this information when either responding to an offer or when
    posting a wanted.
  • Very interest Sara. So MrKermie, anything to say in your defence......!!

  • I've used Freecycle to get rid of items I no longer want. What the person does with them doesn't really bother me.

But that's just my opinion of course!
  • Im lost i dont see what sara2323 is getting at

If someone is obtaining free stuff and selling it on for a profit surely thats up to them, if the site they obtain them from decides to prevent it any further then they can stop any more transactions with them, but i strongly feel they have no right to sabotage someones sales

Its not a school playground, tit for tat retaliation is quite low in my opinion.

  • Depending on the value of the items your selling and whether or not you can be bother what about putting the s**ts up them and send a solicitors letter?

You can also contact a debt collection agency for monies lost in listing the items again dependent on the cost of the listings.

Bit silly really the way some people choose to act thinking they can hide behind a keyboard and their identity is protected.

What???? So you think I' m the moderator on the Freecycle board, really I don't know what you mean by the above.

There are two sides to everything, after reading the above post I read an e-mail from my local freecycle board related to this. Incidentally also posted around same time as the above poster.

It does not mean I agree with either of the posters.

  • The three combined items were bought for for over £500 by the supposed buyer.

The thing that gets me as i have given around 30 items away on freecycle and i put ONE wanted advert on and the person took it completely out of control.

I was thinking of seeing what the police have to say as i see it as harrassment, but i'll speak to my brother on the matter as hes a copper.

But i would swear on my life that i have never sold anything on ebay that i got off freecycle but in the same breath i don't actually see a problem with it.

The daft thing is the woman moderator clearly left me her address when she won the auctions so i know where she lives if i decide to see a solicitor on this matter.

At the end of the day the bidder has made a "legal contract" by winning the auction so thats the issue not how the seller obtained the items.

It all seems a very childish behaviour. Perhaps sara2323 as a freecycle member can raise the issue on the board of with the mod directly?
