Sorry to sound harsh, but you NEED to put your foot down NOW, or it will carry on and on for how ever long you are therefore.
Even if you have just moved in, now is the best time to sort it, just tell them in no uncertain terms, you didn't want it, you haven't budgeted for it, therefore you are NOT paying for it.

or just go out an buy something for the 'flat' that only you will use
then ask for a share
even if you have to return it, it may drive home the point0 -
How many other people are in this conglomerate? Go and buy something quite expensive, so that the money the rest have to give you matches what you owe!
If they refuse then take it back for a refund, but state that you're not paying what you owe for the things they've bought.Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
It's a very difficult situation. Are they people with more available money than you or don't they have any money sense?
If you can't get them to see your point of view, you're going to have to choose between upsetting them or getting into a lot of debt.
I think you'll have to keep going with the same line - if I didn't agree to buy it, I'm not giving anyone any money.
They no doubt use the MAD bank. (Mum and Dad)."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
!!!!!! is all that about?0 -

I've been thinking about saying I refuse to pay for it but we've only just moved in and I don't want to create a tense atmosphere...
Refuse to pay.
In fact tell them that you are poor, let them see you eat cheap food and refusing to go out because you don't have the money.
That's the only way they will get the message.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Tell them you don't want or need the use of any of the unessential items and can not afford to pay for them, simple as!0

Thanks for the advice guys... I guess I just have to bite the bullet and put my foot down... It just concerns me that, if one of these days I decide to treat myself to something, I will be getting the third degree. and I really don't want to be getting myself on the wrong side of my new flatmates.
I thought they'd all be on a similar wavelength as me because I earn more than most of them within a year, but they all get bailed out by Mum and Dad and I really don't have that option!
I'd love to do the 'buy something pointless and see how they like it' ideas but I just couldn't afford anything in the first place!0 -
You can treat yourself to something in the future because you have worked hard and SAVED for it.
If they dont like t=it tough, your obvioulsy more money savvy than any of tjem, so you put that foot down and make sure it stays down, if there parents are happy for them to waste money on things them let them pay for all of it.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
Put your foot down, tell them you will only refund someone if you give permission before purchase.
Luckily 5 guys, we don't buy into this whole 'sharing' !!!!. We bought a TV and that's it, we are going to sell it at the end, or if a housemate wants it, they will pay the going second hand price.0 -
I would buy a flat screen tv and ask for there share xD0
