Ebay account hijacked

Hi
Never had this happen before, that someone's got into my account and listed items. Relieved that Ebay froze my account straightaway, all quickly sorted, but won't the person who hacked into it still have my email address? It was lucky that I hadn't updated my bank details, and home address stuff surely isn't a concern, but I can't think of e.g. any suspect emails I responded to that may have given out information and caused this to happen. Or is it just a random thing?
Cheers, Cat

You and me both! I wish I knew who it was, as I'd [insert expletive!] really like to return the favour :-) (if I knew how to, that is!)0 -
One way it's done (getting your details) is phishing. You get a link to ebay, you follow it and sign in thinking it's the real thing and they get your details. IE7 has anti phishing functions as does firefox. Download 1 or both of them and protect yourself:T0

Thanks Zahc, I think one reason I'm puzzled is I'm always really careful to only log into Ebay directly. Many thanks for suggesting IE7 ... am downloading it now! And will take a look at Firefox.

Cheers C_Ronaldo, will definitely take a look at it. IE7's a big improvement, but am interested to look at Firefox ... and cut out all those potential hassles with Microsoft patches and flaws etc at the same time!0 -
i had this earlier this year....... i hadnt been caught out by a phishing email, but ebay never responded to my request for their investigation results..... so i suspect something may have been amiss at their endsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I have also over last few month had several emails pretending to be from Paypal and Barclays asking me to click on the links in the emails, Never ever click on these are enter your details. I have reporetd several times these emails but Paypal never reply and Barclays seem to bounce my emails back to me. I did on one occasion report one site to the hosting company and the site was pulled down.0

Sounds like that might have been the case. It looks like they've really speeded up now, so maybe if it happens again you'll find that they're right onto it. In my listings, all the false listings showed (computer systems etc) and they were listed in the last two days. The emails from Ebay were here this morning, and quite a shock! But they'd credited fees back, and I very soon changed password and had account unfrozen. It's puzzling how it happened though ... must have been a bot.0
