I bought 2 tubs of paint from B&Q on their 2 for £25 offer, have today put it on the walls and it has dried a completely different colour! I have only opened one tub, the other is still sealed, can I ask for an exchange or refund or will I have to scrap the paint and buy new?

Thanks

have you used much from the one you have opened ?

just put the lid back on, take them both back and explain the paint colour is completely different and ask for a refund, if they only refund the one tub that is sealed its better then nothing.

not even half of the first one, the colour is really different, i was going for a very soft sand/light coffee colour, its dried lilac grey!

i would take both tubs back and insist on a refund, it may be worth taking a picture of the colour and taking that with you ?

i know the colour samples on the tubs are only a guide, and should be used as such.

I sopose it would also depend on what colour you are painting over ?

either way, just take both tubs back to the B&Q with proof of purchase and ask for a refund, if you explain the extreme colour difference to them you should be fine in my opinion

Thanks. 3 walls were peach and one wall was bare grey plaster. I was expecting the colour to look different between the grey base and the peach, but there isn't. Its a very oppressive colour!

It sounds like a very thin paint, by all means take them back explaining its the wrong colour, but it might be a good idea to coat the walls with a cheap white primer first, or a triple overcoat is going to be needed, especially for plaster, as paint tends to soak into the plaster.

Thanks again, I can't find my receipt, but I paid by debit card, will that be a problem do you think?

I'm hoping i've left the receipt in the car.

should be fine with a credit card or bank statement detailing the purchase made to B&Q, but i cant be 100% on that sorry.

    Wayne is right.

They can request proof of purchase but it doesnt have to be a till receipt. It can be a bank statement. Although if the transaction is for a different amount, there may be complications but it should be possible for them to check it against their records.

and that's why they invented tester pots.

Agree with marleyboys suggestion though as this is exactly what we are doing when we paint my mum's walls.

They will prob refuse to accept back the opened tin if there was a tester you could have tried.
