Hi I use a Cashplus Mastercard and have done for a while. I have no quibbles with it apart from a 99p charge to withdraw from an ATM. also pay the £4.95 a month so that I don't get charged for purchases, but I have a credit builder attached which hopefully will improve my record.

Standing orders to the card are free, its free to topup at a post office and I believe its free to have your wage sent to it. There are some fees I haven't mentioned but I don't need them.

I used it this year on holiday in the Caribbean with no hiccups and worked out cheaper than using my Santander debit card.

Which card is best probably depends on how much you are likely to use it - there is a full MSE article here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/prepaid-cards
for online spending they recommend either travelex cash passport or extreme cred.

Fairfx anywhere £ card (free from Daily Mail web-site or numerous other links) so only charge is 1.5% for withdrawals (ATM or spending). Use Internet, UK or around the world.

    Hi,

I read this thread as thinking a prepaid card is my best option at the moment as I did try to get a vanquis card but was declined.

Loking at the other thread mentioned, the FairFX card looks pretty good.

    Anyone got one/or had one?
    Was it a good choice?

    thanks

Hi, I have just been accepted for the Cashplus Mastercard, and paid my initial £4.95 at the local post office today (I don't have a debit card) so the card will be with me sometime in the next week. I've been wondering about further charges and admit I haven't really looked into it. I assume the charge is £4.95/month - is this right? If so, how is it paid? Will I be able to set up a DD or SO to pay it?
Any other advice you can give me will be gratefully received.
    Thanks
