Port from Orange through third party to Orange?

I think the answer to this is no - but thought I'd double check.
I've currently got my phone with Orange, I'm looking to get a new deal and have discovered I can get a better deal (still with Orange) by shopping around. I've asked Orange but they can't beat it.
Anyway, I'd really like to keep my number - can I do it? Or would I have to go with a different provider?
Thanks very much - sorry for the silly question.

I've found the answer on a website - and no it's not possible (which is what I thought) - cause this would just be an upgrade.0

Don't quote me on this but I believe that when you cancel your contract you can ask them to swap you onto a PAYG tariff, then after a month or so you can start a new contract and transfer the number across.
I may be wrong though but I'm sure someone will be along to confirm this shortly.0 -
Get your pac, go to another networks payg. Start new contract, get pac for payg, port back to Orange. Job done. People do it everyday. . .0
