I'm hoping that you are not suffering from an affliction that prevents you seeing seeing what is right in front of you.

My daughter recently bought a refurbished one from argos on ebay and is really pleased with it. This one would suit your mom and has windows 7 and an i3 processor and yes it does write discs. The 12mts guarantee is the same as for the regular laptops. The one that my daughter got seemed brand new.

Don't think she will be able to use her Argos vouchers.....
The Toshiba Satellite L500-1XD in your link is available on the Argos website at £450. So it could be over budget.
The difference between this one and the Toshiba Satellite L500-1XC in post #7 is an extra 2GB RAM. So, not the greatest value, but then 2 new RAM modules could cost you that anyway if you chose to upgrade, so....0 -
thanks for your help everyone, she is now the proud owner of a new toshiba laptop

Don't forget the 3 years Data Recovery service including Warranty Extension (virtual) for £55.81.
Wait a couple of weeks to see if she is sure that she wants to keep the laptop. It has to be purchased within 30 days of the purchase of the laptop. Once she is sure, she can go ahead if she so chooses.
In addition to extending your standard warranty to three years, you also get their Data Recovery Service.
It's good value.0
