They are also charging us for a couple of chipped plates, 2 missing chopping boards...(which we definatley left but they cannot find???) and a stained pillow, but say VAT will be added onto these aswell. Total deductions not including cleaning is £15.50, but can they just add VAT onto them just like that? I could buy them myself and hand them over for cheaper than that. To be honest, my main concern is this cleaning. It was 3 wall heaters that needed dusting, and a bedroom floor that needed hoovering. They were the only things they pointed out. I know cleaning can be expensive, but it's like they've had other things cleaned and added it to our bill!

Register a dispute with your deposit scheme and go to arbitration. That's what it's there for.

Do what princeofpounds says. They are trying to charge you for wear and tear just because they think they can. And they can if you let them.

Thank you for this! I cannot get through however... It just rings out for ages each time I call.

Going tback to the other "small" issues they are charging us for, can they add VAT on to these thing too?

Flipping eck! this sounds exactly like the experience i had with Dandara in Manchester (not them is it!?)

They did try to charge us a cleaning fee too, even though we did a better job also. there was no getting out of it, but what i did do was get quotes from other companies.
wash and glow was the best we got, so Dandara used them (or said they did). in the end it saved us money, but we learned a lesson to take lots of photographs!

YES! It's Danadra in Manchester! They have already done the clean though and I think the new tennants have moved in. I don't begrudge paying for a couple of plates and pillows, but it was them that said it was i light clean that needed doing. I'm furious . They take days to reply to my emails and are clearly ripping us off! We left it in a far better state than when we moved in but i'm not paying £88 for a dust and a hoover in 1 room.....

Can you remember the name of the person you were dealing with?

for £550 a month i guess you were in spectrum then!

I think there was a clare....honestly cant remember though.

here's some advice - i found out that who i was dealing with did not do the check out inspection, it was someone else. in other words they are passing on information. i did get more sense when i spoke to a manager (could have been clare!).

Why haven't you raised this with the deposit scheme? It's not hard, I don't see what the problem is with doing that. You won't get anywhere emailing the agents, just contact the depo scheme and ask for your deposit back. They will decide what's fair.

Yeah it's Claire who i'm dealing with at the moment. I've said we are happy to pay £50 for cleaning and the £15.50 for the items they are charging us for, but if she comes back with anything else I will contact the deposit scheme...

Oh, and it was St Georges Island...;)

I've still not had a reply from Dandara about the money. I was reading through the T&C from the Deposit Protection Scheme about using them for disputes incase I decide to go through them, and unless I've read it wrong, we have to agree that their decision is final if we use them... Could this mean I end up paying more than the £65 i've agreed to pay...?
