They would contribute more to society if they did sit at home.

Well done OP, you've wasted the time and verbally abused some poor guy who is just trying to earn a living and has probably resorted to working in a cold calling job as a last resort to pay the bills.
In an ideal world, crime would not pay, so nobody would take up crime as a last resort to feed their family. Similarly, it would be great if people who took up cold calling were to find that cold calling does not pay and find useful ways of earning a crust instead.

So you think front line cold call staff should suffer because of the errors by their managers that they have no control over?

I would have more sympathy had I not registered with TPS and repeatedly asked companies like British Gas to stop contacting me, I am never rude when cold called, I just like to have a bit of a laugh with them. Remember I have asked them not to call so if they are going to waste my time, I feel within my right to waste theirs. Besides I often ask for the manager right away as it's far more fun to play with the organ grinder! :)
