T-Mobile Internet Access From Mobile - Opinions

Hi,

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on web access from a mobile on T-Mobile? The reason I ask is that I called Vodafone to try and get a good sim only deal and mentioned T-Mobile and the agent (unsurprisingly) said that T-Mobile were one of the worst for speed of internet access. I know that he is going to say that to seal the deal, but is T-Mobiles network that bad and is Vodafones really that good when it comes to Internet access?

I am looking at the T-Mobile Sim only deal that has 600 mins, 500 Texts and a free booster which I will take as unlimited internet (unlimited meaning 1GB)

Thanks,

D

I had someone from Vodafone Retentions today tell me that Vodafone are the fastest network because only they offer 7.2mbps whereas all other networks are 3.6mpbs. I think this imight be true, but I think all the other networks are in the process of upgrading (eg. the 80's style tv adverts for "3" where they are boosting their network).

t mobile are pretty slow to be honest, but hopefully with the tie in with orange, the speed may improve

Thanks for the replies. Vodafone won't match any of the T-Mobile deals which is annoying, but I do not want to move to them if the service is no good.

Maybe I should look at Virgin, they are doing 400 mins, unlimited texts, and unlimited <cough> Internet for £15 a month - ah, hold on a minute, don't they use T-Mobiles network?

Damn, why is this so difficult? :)

T-Mobile are better than Vodafone in my experience.

Vodafone must be very fast then. I have to say I have no problems with T-Mobile in Glasgow- get HSDPA and can stream video like the football and tennis recently with no issues!

Be aware t-mobile cap their internet speeds below 300k on the 1gb booster, so dont expect to do any youtube streaming. You may get lucky by ringing and getting it decapped but dont expect its a definite.

I switched from Vodafone to T-Mobile recently and my internet speeds have improved massively.

With Vodafone the chances of the H appearing next to my signal indicator was minimal, a home or at work in central London, however since switching to T-Mobile it seems to be pretty much a constant and pages load far far quicker.

If you go for a sim only deal and you are using a smartphone, call T-Mobile technical support. they should be able (if you ask them nicely) to remove the cap and also put you on the smartphone FUP limit of 3gbs. You have to be really nice to them, mind. ;)

I'm on Voda SIM only and quite often when we're away in London best mate has to use my phone for WAP access as quite often her Web n Walk just wont load at all, whereas I have the E symbol on mine and it loads quickly.

I'm with T-Mobile on the sim only with Internet booster and speeds are capped at 450k.You only get fast HSDPA if your on the smartphone package or are willing to pay extra.I've not tried asking them to switch it on free no harm in asking I suppose. You would probably be better going with Virgin as you still get HSDPA speeds with them.
