ABS light

Happened to me a few years ago on a VW Polo.
turns out both sensors had failed on the front and were replaced at a cost of £155.
about 3 months later the light came on again. this time it was the abs control unit that had failed. VW quoted £370 plus vat plus 2-3hours labour.
And that was on a car with less than 40k miles and full VW service history.
Luckily I managed to source a replacement control unit using some contacts in the trade adn calling in favours but to supply and fit still cost me almost £400.

Before you fit a new sensor try taking the wheel off and pressure washing around the back of the brake disc (as suggested by Scotsman) as it may be dirt build-up on the sensor (had this on my Alfa Romeo in the winter, when I guess salt build up did it) then trace the wire from the sensor back to find its connecting plug (will be either under the wheelarch, or maybe just inside the boot behind a removable panel) unplug it, clean the connectors and put a bit of Vaseline on it then plug it back in. Sometimes the connection gets a bit corroded, increasing the resistance which causes an erroneous reading back to the ECU. Had this on my Citroen.
Might save you £83

An ABS sensor for a Corsa C (up to 2007 model) is £40
i think the rear abs sensor on corsa c is same as vectra's astra's etc it is a sealed hub unit so pressure washing will not do anything.0 -
I took the bulb out of the warning light, problem solved for me. Total cost £0.000

nice idea until you come to stop in an emergency when it is wet,how stupid to imply people should do this kind of thing to a safety system.0 -

Mines also only had a connector to a sealed unit (as far as i'm aware) but this worked. I think my problem occured due to the amount of stuff put on the roads this year due to the salt shortage.
I couldnt remove the bulb because it was a surface mounted LED and I didnt want to stick a screwdriver through it.
Another thing I noticed over winter is how pointless abs actually is. |Any time I braked hard, as I didnt have traction, it didnt really work.0 -

you may well have said problem solved for "you" but posting like that on a forum gives the impression you are suggesting bulb removal is an option to fix fault.
in your own words "problem solved" not strictly true problem hidden more like, lets just hope that one day you do not need the ABS and that if you sell the car on the problem is fixed first rather than stitching up some unsuspecting innocent buyer?

strange that as the ABS on my van and car came in really handy when we had the bad weather, there were times when i came to a controlled stop with ABS but without it the situation would have been so different.
ABS has been proved to be effective on that test track in iceland a car was tested at a certain speed with ABS and without and the car equipped with it faired considerably better.
maybe yours is not functioning correctly if it did not really work??0 -

I stand by my original statement that if I didnt have traction, it was pointless.
On loose surfaces or snow (it was winter, I cant think of any other time my ABS has activated), can abs not actually increase braking distances?
I'm sure it was functioning correctly, but I was unable to change direction either.0 -

The thing is......the problem isn't solved....it's still there.
You now don't have a warning light.
So despite your big bold letters, you're actually wrong.
