P.S I know Ted does not agree with this and says there is no evidence to support it. I am just saying what has worked for me. I would like to be honest and say i do sell aloe products but i joined the company because of the brilliant results i got from the drinking gel.
As I have made clear placebo, hypnotherapy and CBT are also known to work well. It is quite clear with IBS that brainwashing/therapy will alter the course of this condition.

Anyone who wants to try Aloe Vera may care to use Holland and Barret who supply at £8.99 not the £18 charged by FLP. I'm quite certain that if Aloe Vera containeds an ingredient that treated IBS efficiently the Pharmacuetical Industry would have analysed it and Patented an effective drug based on that constituent. I also think that with the money FLP make they could fund the research to support the claims their representatives make. The fact that they don't should tell the savvy customer something.

We haven't found anything that will stop him having to go to the toilet when necessary, but the above things relieve the symptoms.

I'm approaching normal when I'm on codeine for my slipped discs - otherwise not. It's a real problem at work, having to leave meetings in a hurry, or having to delay getting on a train because I'm not sure I'll last the 30 door-to-door journey.

Mine first started around 1988 when I travelled round Brazil. I had the usual Delhi belly but it just wouldn't go away when I got home; a hospital test a couple of months later showed lurking germs, for which I took antibiotics, and a subsequent test showed it was all clear. But I've not been right since; I think the infection knocked my system permanently off-kilter.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

At the moment I use Buscopan IBS bought from Tesco's its expensive, about £4.50 for 18 tablets. But it works and its about the only thing that does as far as I'm concerned.

But the pack states it must be for medically diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

As it happens I came on this board to see if I can buy them cheaper.

Ted, you have made your feelings about FLP clear on more than one occassion. I disagree with your opinion but respect it as you are entitled to it. As i have said before my customers have gained great results from the Aloe Juice as have i. It is expensive but if you had ever suffered with IBS you would realise that it is money well spent if it makes you feel better. Some of my customers have tried other brands of aloe and have said it has not worked but i would recommend people to try the cheaper brands first. There is a trial taking place at the moment with sufferers of IBS and aloe, some aloe products are also endorsed by the excema society and are used in Great Ormond St hospital and St James so i don't think aloe can be just a placebo effect!! As i have said before, not all treatment whether complimentary or conventional are going to work for everyone. I have never made any claims that it is a cure all. I am sharing my experiences of IBS as a member of MSE not as a seller. I hope you can respect this.

immune-modulating as IBD is an auto-immune condition and we know that there is a direct and indirect regulation of T cell development and function by vitamin D, so encouraging your mother to spend as much time as possible between now and the end of September outside, getting as much sun on as much of her skin as she dare will ensure she maximises her vitamin d reserves from October, unless she's able to spend the Winter in the Canaries using 5000iu D3 fromThe best source for Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol. every other day should be sufficient though no harm will come if she took them every day from October to March.

I would like to clear up any confusion between IBS and IBD, as both Ted, and another poster, have mentioned IBD in replies.

The OP said that his mother has been diagnosed with IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome, by her doctor. IBD- Inflammatory Bowel Disease, is either Crohns Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, as correctly stated by the 2nd poster in the thread, a stoma care nurse. These 2 conditions, while they share some of the same symptoms of IBS, are much more serious, and can only be fully diagnosed by a gastroenterologist who carries out further tests such as a colonoscopy. In both conditions the lining of the gut becomes inflammed and ulcerated, and passing blood in the stools is usually what differentiates the disease from IBS.

I just wanted to make this clear, as when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis I got more than a little tired of well meaning people telling me that someone they knew had it, (talking about IBS), and that they had been 'cured' by probiotics, aloe vera, diet etc.

As it happens, I have IBS as well as IBD, (aren't I the lucky one???;) ) so I do know what it feels like to experience a whole range of symptoms!

Hope that clears up any confusion. I'm getting down off my high horse now:rotfl:

I'm pleased that you have clarified the matter. There are however common denominators linking these conditions. The Manitoba Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort Study: prolonged symptoms before diagnosis--how much is irritable bowel syndrome?
