Need Advice About O2 Contract Deal

Hi, I've always been a PAYG 02 customer. But I'm wanting to upgrade my handset. After looking at prices of buying sim free phones I figured I might be better off on a contract deal. I phoned 02 to see what they could offer me. They weren't going to offer me much until I suggested I take up a new PAYG contract with someone else. Eventually, I decided I would be better off with a contract.
The best they said they could offer me was 500 anytime mins with new handset a few mentioned were Nokia 6111, N70, Nokia 6230i & Samsung E900 for £25 a month.
Should I try for a better deal? I see on this site some people have 500 anytime mins & 400 texts for £15 ! Is that including a free handset.
Any advice, handy hints or tips would be much appreciated.

The better deals you have seen have probably been contract retention deals. The deal they have offered you is pretty good considering you have come from PAYG.
If you take up a contract then in a years time you will be in a better position to barter your contract0 -
I agree. When you move from prepay some of the offers are based on your average monthly top up - if spend has only recently increased this will still give you a low-ish average.
I think you've done well to get 500 minutes for £25! any SMS?
And have you seen a handset you want?OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
I've heard the Nokia 6280 is a nice phone but I'm not sure if that one is on the free offer. Do you know if any of the phones I listed above are any good?
I don't think they have offered me any free texts, which I would like.
Do you think I could get a deal including free texts? I'd be prepared to lose a few free mins to get some free texts on the deal they've offered.0 -
Of the phones you listed Angelbrandy the Samsung E900 and the N70 are the better two... the others are a bit out of date in my opinion!!
Why don't you have a look at the phones in a shop before you place any order? And don't forget, any handset you order can be returned/exchanged within 14 days.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
Just one thing to remember if you do take an 02 contract and your spend it low EG.. you don't spend over you min & txt allowence then your upgrade will be a load of old crap.
I have just left o2 after 5 years over 4 of them my spend was fairly high but last you i made sure i did not go over my allowence and they offered me a phone that was older then the one they gave me the year before:beer: LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0 -
If you don't actually need a new phone then this Virgin sim only deal looks interesting:

£15 a month gives 200 minutes and 500 texts or 300 minutes and 300 texts. Plus free 8meg broadband if you want it.Join the Sarcasm Appreciation Society.

I'm on o2, and for £30 a month, I get 300 mins and 750 texts. I recently changed my tariff from £35 a month, 750 mins and 750 texts, but I never used the mins, so am saving myself £5 a month.
Out of the phones you have listed above, the N70 is the best, but it's big and it's a smartphone, so is quite slow compared to normal phones. I have the E900 and love it to bits. It has touch sensitive buttons, and is a slide phone. The 6230i is quite old now, and I think the 6111 is quite basic. I have had an N70 and E900, and would recommend the E900.0
