Amount of electricity used
With winter fast approaching and us all try to minimise outlay and prices varying depending on location, I was wondering if anyone knows their average daily KWh usage, I reckon mine was about 14 a day last winter and 10 a day in summer, though I have been changing to low energy bulbs. Just wondered how I compare with others and if there are more savings to be had.:undecided

I still haven't used it yet (naughty naughty) but I bought a gadget from Tchibo which you plug your gadgets into and then plug that into the wall and it tells you exactly how much electricity it uses.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
Just checked, i've used 1374kWh since moving into my house last november, works out at about 4.5kWh per day? can that be right? but then there is only me in the house and i'm out at work most of the day.Just wondered how I compare with others
i do use mostly energy saving bulbs and try to remenber to turn light off when not in use, otherwise i don't go to any extremes.:cool:Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
lol, my mum & dad always remember my maternal grandfather being like scrooge and watching the dial wizzing round and saying "look at the speed of that"
no offence intended. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
Over this past week we used 115 units of electricity and 1.04 units of gas according to our meters - not sure what that equates to, but we were both home during that time. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Hi seb,
You should get more help with this on the Gas and Elecricity board, so I'll move your thread over there.

I use around 40Kwh of electricity per week fairly consistantly, but I'm aiming to reduce this with my 'nothing left on standby' policy.
Peak winter gas for the cental heating is about 450 Kwh per week, during the summer when its just heating the water it is down to around 25 Kwh per week. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Jan - Sept I have averaged 11 units per day electricity, 1.25 units per day gas.
Summer months (April - Aug) I averaged 10.5 units per day electricity, 0.32 units per day gas.
Is it me, or does that seem high on the electricity and low on gas? Elec use is fairly constant throughout the year (have elec oven which goes on 3 or 4 times per week), gas goes right down in the summer as literally we only have the boiler on for 2 x 15min blasts each day. I do turn out lights, not leave things on standby etc but I think I need to get some energy saving bulbs in....0 -
To take a rough estimate - Take a reading today - A Reading next Tuesday evening. Work out the difference and divde by 7.
Gives you an estimated daily usage over a week.0
