Hi there,
Two of use are going to egypt for 14 nights on half board.
Currently ordered 200 quids worth of egyptian currency but was wondering how much would people recommend we take.
Was going to take some more in sterling travellers cheques but thinking it might be better to get some more egyptian pounds.
Any advice would be great

You should take sterling with you, then you can exchage some more should you need to.
Eqypt is not expensive. Transport/taxis are cheap, as is eating.0 -
I have been to Egypt several times and always take stirling travellers cheques. Egypt is not expensive and we were on half board on our last visit in 2003 but we took £600 with us and brought nearly £200 back. Having said that if you are wanting to do any excursions whilst out there they are pretty expensive so I put those on my credit card!Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0

We just came back from Egypt last week. We didn't take any travellers cheques or Egyptian pounds. We took Sterling - £10 and £20 notes. Just cashed them as we needed them. Plus we had a Nationwide cashpoint card which we used a coupe of times. Seemed to get a better rate with that.
Usual fast food places like McDonalds for a snack at lunchtime is much cheaper than here.0 -
I realise its an open question. I was hoping to get a rough idea on how much lunches and a few trips and other misc stuff would cose
From the sounds of it lunches are cheap so won't be spending too much on them
Was planning to pay for big excursions by CC so won't need cash for that.
so maybe get a few more egyptian pounds bt no much by the sounds of things, then take the rest in travellers cheques / cash0 -
They do have ATMs in Egypt0

Really depends on how many excursions you intend to take, as these will bump the cash you need up.
However, you'll be able to pay for these by credit card, whether you book with your travel company (expensive, crowded) or use a reputable local Egyptian one (cheaper, much more personal service)
We took sterling last time, exchanged some at Luxor Airport when we arrived, then stored the rest in the room safe until we needed more, which was then exchanged in the hotel's bank.
Where is it in Egypt you are travelling to?0 -
We wnt to Egypt in July and found it just as easy to use English money as Egyptian pounds. They had a standard rate of 10 to the pound. It was great!! Really easy. We would give out our English pounds and they would ask us if we wanted English change or Egyptian. Hope it stays that way for u0
