BT Homehub use with TalkTalk?

I'm about to be given a free BT Homehub as a customer, but already have a Netgear wireless router and didn't want to mess up my setup..

Can anyone tell me if the BT Homehub will work on other providers like TalkTalk? as i would donate this to my family...

I know Sky, use Netgear routers with their name printed across and are just essentially a Netgear Router!

I have heard that TalkTalk won't work well for some unknown issue with Netgear?!? so hence wanting to know if the BT one will work on a TalkTalk line? - Or will the BT Homehub be an improvement on my BT line for my BT wireless Broadband??

Has (or does) anyone successfully do this with other providers?

Thank you.

FYI Sky supply their own versions of both Netgear and Sagem Routers, they both run Sky's own firmware and are locked to Sky's broadband service.
There are ways of re flashing them but thats only for the brave:D

Not tried myself, but over on Skyuser some folks have ended up bricking their routers.

The homehub will not work with Talk talk.
I know someone who recently tried to hack his to work with TT without any joy I'm afraid.
Apparently you need to open it up and solder a (serial?) socket in there.

Ok so the BT homehub is out for TT then... but is the Netgear ok? I did read some eBay reports on sellers saying that this doesn’t always work with the TT provider for some reason??

That there seems to be a conflict with TalkTalk and Netgear products?

I use a Netgear router for my TalkTalk BB (the standard TT router caused problems with XBox Live) and it works fine, no fiddling required.

I think you'll find than any 'off the shelf', non supplier specific router will be ok e.g. Netgear, Belkin etc. although I accept no responsibility it if all goes south;)

No, you need to flash the homehub first. I'm using the V1 with talktalk.

    just google flash homehub

    HI All,

A List of the Supported Equipment can be found here

    http://broadband.talktalk.co.uk/broadband/wireless-router#ANC

Unsupported equipment which does not appear above may not be compatible with TalkTalk and we would be unable to give advice on this.

TT do supply branded warrentied equipment for use on our network which we will support fully in the event of any issues.

    Regards

  • i can confirm that this is not correct the home hub can be used as a broadband router but the Phone doesnt work so separate phone would be needed i have proven this as i sold my old hub BT to someone and the hub works fine as a router but the fone has problems connecting
