iPhone 4 on O2

Hi all,

What's the best deal that people have gotten from O2 on the iPhone 4.

The reason I asked this is that in January, my wife was trying to work out which phone to go for to renew her contract.

She got the following deal:
600 minutes
X text (can't remember)
Unlimited landlines
Unlimted data
18 month contract
£35 / month
FREE iPhone 3GS

Now, at the time I was telling her that the iPhone 3GS was expensive and even on a contract you'd have to pay upfront. Her work colleague took out a contract with Tesco Mobile the week before and had to pay £198 upfront.

I don't know why my wife got the iPhone 3GS for free but it makes me wonder whether people are getting much better deals than the website rate for the iPhone 4 at the moment when upgrading.

Thanks.

iPhone 4 is new and out of stock or at least very very constrained at the moment, you are extremly unlikely to get any deal as they can sell the stock they have at the moment for the full price, so have no bneed to discount it.

You can try retentions but usually there is no wiggle room on a iphone.

Agreed, they won't offer a deal on the new iPhone.
  • You'll probably find that the 3GS was a "reconditioned" phone rather than "new".

    Thanks all.

I see, so maybe my wife got lucky with her phone then because it looked new when she got it (its only a 16Gb one though).

Any way to tell if its reconditioned? Tariff details / what it comes without etc.

I would imagine that the only way of telling if it was a recon is by looking at the original invoice that came with it. I've had a couple of recon phones from O2 in the past and they've always looked brand new.

There were quite a few people who got free iphone 3GS's in Jan/Feb including myself, by going through retentions at O2. They were generally refurbished but look brand new, as they have a new front & back case fitted by apple before being sent out. Usual way to tell is that they don't come in the original Iphone box, coming in an O2 branded box instead.
