Is this just a weed... or is it... weed?!

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you can help: I've been out this morning doing some very overdue weeding in the veggie patch (can't believe how fast these b*ggers grow!) and I came across this one right at the end of the patch, at the back. I was about to pull it out when I did a double take :eek:

Is it 'just' another weed... or is it a cannabis plant..? I'll feel really silly if it isn't lol! But it looks like one to me, from pictures I've seen. The leaves just reminded me of those little pictures you see on cigarrette lighters, etc.







... if it is, where did it come from :eek: I take it I should pull it up and destroy it asap? :rotfl:

I dont think it is tbh!
It looks quite pale in colour and leaves look too big imo!
Cannabis plants are normally quite dark like the tomato plants i think, does it smell when you rub the leaves?

Good grief, I see what you mean! I just googled Cannabis on Google Images, and it does look really like it. If it is, then maybe it self seeded from some place else. Better check the rest of your garden. I think I would assume it is and get rid anyway, it not doing anything useful where it is. Unless of course.......

Hmmm, well the leaves are perhaps a little darker than what they appear in the photos. At the moment it is about 2ft tall. Yes, there is a very strong smell to it when I rubbed the leaves... not sure how to describe the smell though, a bit like the smell of a tomato plant but sweeter.

Self-seeded definitely, but from where I ask? LOL! It is growing directly under where we feed the birds. We use long feeders filled with wild bird seed so presume it could have come from there... but cannabis in bird seed?!!!

I will get rid, if it's just a weed then it certainly isn't wanted... and if it's weed then it DEFINITELY isn't needed :eek:

I would say yes it came from your bird seed I had the same thing many years ago

Hemp, can be bought from pet shops as bird seed, it is also in mixed bird food and Hemp is cannabis.
I aint sure if its a cannabis plant or not thought.

We used to have a couple of these in my mums garden, it's not weed but it's 'a weed' (not sure what type). We had Norwegian (sp?) students staying with us at the time and one of them spotted it... 'I'm going to report you to my leader! You're growing drugs, cannabis is as serious as it gets!' :rotfl:

loads of bird seed contains hemp - a friends garden was thick with it, it is a variant of the same plant as cannabis, but is not psychoactive, however much you smoke!!

Not sure it's a weed.... tis beautiful if you ask me!

Probably not proper weed either. Is there not some difference between males and females of this plant or am i being foolish!?
