So Santander cards are strict on searches, thought it had to be loads - well about 10:p

No, not only Santander are strict on searches. This is normal. Sometimes is better to be informed rather then guess.

Think about it - this colleague or whoever comes to you and asks you to lend him fiver. You are quite happy to do so, it's fiver and he's got a good job.

But then you see him walking around the office and he borrows fiver from everyone. Are you still feeling secure that this money is coming to you any time soon? Isn't your brain working overtime trying to figure out why is he doing that? Is he in some sort of trouble? Is he telling the truth?

The lenders can only see searches. They don't know whether you got the loan/card, but they can't be sure. And you are still trying - whether you did or not get the loan, you look desperate.

I see what you mean in that context, the email they send has an icon to click on; it's to give you an idea why you are declined.
Anyway, it didn't work, it kept bringing up an advert for a Santander zero credit card!
