Thank you so much for this link, so much cheaper and quicker than coach link. Just the thing we need to get to southampton in october when flying over to gatwick from Spain. Have set a reminder to book in September
Just make sure you check the timetable as the last possible "Southern" service leaves Gatwick at 19:50 Mon-Sat, with no service to Southampton on Sundays.0 -

We'll be travelling between 2 and 4pm, plane arriving on time, luggage not getting lost and train service permitting0 -

Then you should have a great and cheap, onward journey. Just one more potential downer, it seems you are flying in from Spain only the "Daysave" ticket has to be posted to a UK address so you may have to find a way round that too sorry but best you have all the info.0 -

Hi,
Anyone able to give me some advice? I have a freind who is travelling from Bodmin to Portsmouth on Thursday afternoon and returning on Saturday morning. She will be doing this trip 3 weeks out of each month for 6 months and I'm looking for the most cost effective way of her travelling. She has paid £45 for this weeks return trip. I was wondering if it would be better for her to go to another station like Southampton Airport as she would have more train operators to choose from. Any advice?
Thanks,

Was trying to book tickets online for a return journey for 2 people over the bank holiday (Thursday Departing and Tuesday Return) - total cost of which was £103.80 + postage - but wasn't sure about the delivery options for the tickets as it was sign on receipt. This was no good as no one would have been in. So called GNER (08457225225) to sort out a better option, girl on the other end said we can't deal with internet queries so I decided to book tickets over the phone instead and to my surprise the total cost of the tickets was £58 - which is quite a big saving. According to the GNER website cheapest single ticket was £25.80 yet over the phone it was £14.50????0

The best advice is to book in advance - £12 each way is achievable. There's allegedly a £6 fare but I couldn't find any actually available on a quick look.
And £45 is not bad for this journey - somehow she got a ticket at well under the standard saver fare.
Southampton Airport won't help much - the additional train operators don't go anywhere useful. The advance fares look to be 50p cheaper - but if she still has to get to portsmouth that's no help.0 -
Day Return London to Sheffield (travelling on weekend).
The Saver return is £57.80, but I was hoping to get something cheaper by splitting. The Advance tickets aren't nearly as cheap as they used to be. The best I have found for walk-up fares is as follows, any suggestions?
London to Grantham CDR £28.30
Grantham to Nottingham CDR £6.60
Nottingham to Sheffield CDR £16.60
Total £51.50

Which weekend, p1an0player?
On Saturday 9 August that trip can be done with Advance Singles for £28.50 return.
Sounds pretty cheap to me.0
