Money Moral Dilemma: Should I drink the milk?

If you didn't sign anything I would take it in as a gift!
Absolutely!
If this were a normal "signed-for" delivery (like a prcael) you would be legally obliged to keep it safe (ie in your fridge!) until reclaimed by the rightful owner, as you had no agreement to buy the milk.
However, you've not accepted a delivery and have even recently told the company's sales representative that you don't want their products. It would appear therefore to have been gifted to you as a loss-leader to tempt you into changing your mind!!
That-said, milk use-by dates tend to be about a week, so keep it in your fridge for a few days, to save on arguments if they come back and start getting funny. Maybe they're not going to sue you, but he might turn up and firmly insist on payment... best avoided if possible.
BTW - "phone the police and report him for trespassing" - only if you have asked him to leave and he has refused, & not if your doorstep is straight on to the street. Even then only if he's truly obnoxious!!!I thought I was a Money Saving Expert - then someone pointed me at Martin Lewis! Now THERE's an expert!!!0 -
Drink it and if they try to charge you just say 'what milk'?
Even if you did get hold of them they'd tell you to keep it anyway because they wouldn't be able to sell it on as they don't know that it's been properly refrigerated in the time that you've had it.
Anyway it would probably cost them more to collect it than it's actually worth.0 -
Throw it in the bin and forget about it
Why would you do that?
I'd just drink it - then put a not on the doorstep that I didn't want any more. If they tried to charge me for what I'd drunk, I guess I'd pay up though - it's only going to be a couple of quid...0 -
Leave it outside with a big label stuck to it saying that you did not order this milk and you do not want it and that the milkman should kindly take it away. You use it and he will charge you for it and will keep on leaving milk.0
-
Of course you should drink it, whats the alternative - leave it to go off and waste it. If they eventually come and ask about it you can say it went off so you had to throw it away. If they are glass bottles you can give them the empties back.0

We have doorstep deliveries and over the years there have been occasional problems, but I think it's well worth it. As said up-thread, the bottles are re-used, it's a job for someone, milkmen tend to be observant if something's going on when they deliver, it's a win-win situation.
When my grandchildren come to stay, I always underestimate how much milk they drink and have to dash round to the shop, and it is extraordinary how the plastic bottles mount up. Piles of them tumbling around, and I don't like to throw them away.0 -
I would just leave it. But if you drink it be prepared to pay for it.0
-
I will use it because they have been told that I don't want it. So I will "assume" that it was left there for me for free.:j0
-
drink it and deny all knowledge of it being there in the first place! It will only go to waste otherwise.
So dont ring them again in case they log/record THEIR calls =D0 -
Take it, keep it, use it. No need to "deny knowledge", legally it's a gift. You wouldn't accept a Christmas present(*) and then go "present, no, don't know what you're talking about, Auntie Nora."
If the milkman questions it, you don't need to lie, you've already told him not to supply it so it's unsolicited goods. You're under no obligation to pay for it.
