I've just got off the phone to talktalk regarding setting up a new account in the flat i've just moved into. To begin with they started demanding my name, mobile telephone number, and address. I gave them my first name, and address so they could check if they supplied the area, but refused to give them my mobile no after they tried to claim they needed it for speed testing...
Anyway they offered me a 24 month contract at standards prices - when the offer advertised is 18 months with the first 12 free - and told me they would need to send out an engineer to connect my phoneline for a one off charge of £69.99. Is this right?
This is the first time i've moved into a flat on my own so i want to check whether this is something i need to pay to get done.

How do you expect them to provision you a new line if you are reluctant to give them your full name and address? And they would need a phone number in order to contact you-since you are not (yet) on the phone...
If you don't want a 24m contract then sign up online, that way you get 18m and the cashback as well.
If the line has been disconnected then yes there will be a reconnection charge, which varies from provider to providerNo free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Plug a phone into your landline.
Can you hear a dialling tone?
If yes, can you call your mobile and get your landline number?
If you have a dialling tone but can't call your mobile, dial 17070.
That will tell you your landline number.
I did likewise and went with Primus for £8.99/month and I didn't have to pay their £70 fee.0 -

Why would i want them contacting me since i only phoned up for information and didn't even suggest i wanted a contract from them?
And i already mentioned i did give them my address so they could check whether they serviced the area.If you don't want a 24m contract then sign up online, that way you get 18m and the cashback as well.
