...but Be blocks port 25 outgoing in their value and pro package. You have to use their SMTP server unless your SMTP server supports SSL on port 465 or accepts emails on submission port 587. I use the latter to get my emails delivered to my smarthost.

I know a few ISP's do block Port 25 (though I haven't come across any as yet having used BT, O2, Pipex and Entanet)

Be shouldn't be blocking Port 465 SSL and anyway, Yahoo always insist on using that port.

UPDATE: To the OP, I just tried the instructions on the web page I quoted http://picobit.wordpress.com/2009/04...ee-pop-access/ on a very old Yahoo.com account and it worked perfectly. You will need to select Yahoo Asia as your region, but London/UK as your locality. No need to pay £11.99 now!

    Settings for our SMTP Server
If you wish to send email from your email client using SMTP, you will need to use the following settings:

    Outbound mail server (SMTP): smtp1.bethere.co.uk
Mail server port (SMTP port): 25
    Use tls/ssl: no
    Use authentication: no

Must admit the BE support web pages are pretty useless!

I did email BE and they supplied me with the wrong info which didnt work. However, the details you gave me did work:T

log onto your Yahoo Email account online, go to Options at the top of your email inbox, then More Options, and on the left hand side you should see a section "POP and Forwarding". Click on that, and make sure you select "Allow your Yahoo! Mail to be POPed ".

I followed your instructions and after a reboot, there was more error messages:T

The bad news is that I have another question:eek:
Why is my windows mail not fully linked to my yahoo a/c even though I'm using the same email add on both? If I send a email via a web page using windows mail, there is no record of it in my yahoo a/c but I can see it in my windows mail a/c. And I've just received a email in my windows mail a/c but not in my yahoo a/c.
Does this mean I need to start opening both accounts to check my emails?
Again, any help appreciated and I hope my question make sense.

    1. Email sent from your Windows Mail does not get saved in your Yahoo account online. That is how it works with Yahoo sending email. Other services will allow email sent from your Windows Mail to be saved online, but not Yahoo, unless you always BCC yourself.....but then.....

    2. If an email appears in your Windows Mail but not in your Yahoo online, it means you have downloaded the email off Yahoo and onto your computer - it has been removed from Yahoo - this is how the POP system works. If you want to keep it there online, you would need to change the setting in Windows Mail to "Always leave mail on the server".

Ideally, if you want to retain sent and received emails all in one place, you would need to use Yahoo online webmail only OR Windows Mail only.

Gmail on the other hand (or any IMAP based email service provider) is the only way to keep your emails properly sync'd in many places at once -i.e. Windows Mail AND mobile device AND online webmail. If thats what your after, I would suggest moving to Gmail. But guess what? You can still move to Gmail and keep your Yahoo mail as well - both accessed and controlled from your Gmail account. You can even send Yahoo email from your Gmail account. :)
