I would really appreciate a little help from one of you lovely ppl.
I just cant for the life of me, set up outlook express/windows mail on my comp. My internet provider is BE but I dont have a email address with them, I use yahoo.com for my email.
BE only gave me the outgoing mail details and I was told to use my email details for the rest of the info. Where am I going wrong with these details?
Incoming mail: pop.mail.yahoo.com
outgoing mail: smtp.beusergroup.co.uk
email user name: (my yahoo email address)
password: (my email add password)
Any help appreciated:)

smtp, not smpt. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Sorry, typing error.
It still doesnt work, when I try to sent a email, I get these message
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'aaaaaaaaa', Account: 'Windows mail', Server: 'smtp.beusergroup.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 213.229.88.7 (213.229.88.7:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC670 -
From the Beusergroup tech notes web page:
Settings for our SMTP Server
If you wish to send email from your email client using SMTP, you will need to use the following settings:
Outbound mail server (SMTP): smtp1.bethere.co.uk
Mail server port (SMTP port): 25
Use tls/ssl: no
Use authentication: no
Must admit the BE support web pages are pretty useless!0 -
Thank you peeps, I think I've managed to send a email via windows mail. But I dont understand why Im still getting error messages like this
Account: 'Windows mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Any ideas?0 -
http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/enhancements/mailplus suggests that you don't get POP access without paying. The error message would appear to back that up.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Ok so now I'm even more confused. I dont want to pay for this, so which email accounts should I sign up to that are free for windows mails or do they all charge?
I am now getting a different error message. When I sign into windows mail. A pop up appears. on the task tab, I get the following
Tasks.....................................................................Status.............Connection
Check for new messages on 'Windows mail'....................Failed..............Local Area Connection
On the errors tab, I get the following
Account: 'Windows mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17
Is this still to do with paying for the service then?0 -
gmail is free and fully featured. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

I would download and install Windows Live Mail, rather than Mail. Live Mail is the latest email client and very user-friendly.
I have two email addresses set up, GMail and Hotmail, and find no problem with either one.
To set up a Yahoo email address in Live Mail, follow these instructions.

Ok, if you are only going to use your Yahoo.com account in Outlook Express/Windows Mail, you will only need to use Yahoo mail servers, so ideally, your outgoing email server should be: smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
BUT, and this is a big BUT
You say you have a Yahoo.com account. As far as I know, older Yahoo.com accounts wont allow email client access, only webmail access, unless you upgrade to Yahoo Plus, (note that Yahoo.co.uk accounts allow email client access). The easiest way to check if your Yahoo email account is enabled for POP/SMTP is to log onto your Yahoo Email account online, go to Options at the top of your email inbox, then More Options, and on the left hand side you should see a section "POP and Forwarding". Click on that, and make sure you select "Allow your Yahoo! Mail to be POPed ". However, if that option is not there, you will need to upgrade to Yahoo Plus OR by changing your Yahoo account region to Asia according to this:

Post back if you need any further info.0 -

...but Be blocks port 25 outgoing in their value and pro package. You have to use their SMTP server unless your SMTP server supports SSL on port 465 or accepts emails on submission port 587. I use the latter to get my emails delivered to my smarthost.0
