Bank buying companies house data

Hi

I work for a bank, and deal with business customers on a daily basis.

We have received no internal briefing about this (yet) but recently I've noticed on the profile of most Ltd and Plc companies, we have a new screen called external data. Within this screen it gives what looks to be a consolidated set of company accounts for the last 3 years, listings of directors, as well as some data from Experian.

This isn't data we've asked the customer for, we're just buying it and attaching it to the profile.

I was wondering if this is normal for a bank to do this?

You don't need to ask the companies for it - they are legally obliged for it to be submitted to and subsequently made available from Companies House.

The information held by Companies House is public information, therefore it makes sense that banks are using this information.
