Does Sudocrem Really Help Acne?

I was wondering anyone could help me?

Im a 33 year old male and at my age I still seem to get alot of spots on my face.

I eat a mixed bag of food sometimes I eat healthy and some times I eat abit of junk like macdonalds like most people do. I do have a coke a cola acddiction and I was wondering whether all the fizzy drinks was causing me to break out in spots?

Plus because im mixed raced half black half white when I get a spot it leaves blemishes/scares.

I use reputable exfoliation products etc on my face however they dont really seem to work like they used too.

I went into boots to ask for advice and was advised to try sudocrem. My real question is does it really help to reduce acne?

I should imagine your best bet is to use a medicated facewash and maybe do that whole cleansing solution thing. My ex always used to try and get me using some clinique thing which was strong smelling to say the least. If you kill off the bacteria and remove the dirt of day to day life then your skin is less likely to get inflammed.

That said I doubt using sudocrem would be a bad thing at all given what it contains. Whats the worst that can happen?? <<runs away thinking of the Dr Pepper advert>>

Be careful with Sudocream it conatins mineral oil which can easily casuse a reaction, some people do get good results with it though, I find Freederm gel applied twice a day works really well, it really is an individual thing but thats the product that got rid of my spots after years of trying, Oh and my skin goes really bad after a sugary binge so the coke could well be contributing - good luck:)
Thank you for this site Martin

I found this web site very useful, http://www.acne.org/ :T

There are reviews of different treatments, cleansing products etc.

I have found that a glycerine based natural cleanser gently taken off with a muslin cloth is what works best for my skin.

Bit random I know but..... what helps me is antibacterial handwash gel :o;) The stuff you just rub into your hands and dont need water for? I have been using the carex one and it does nip a bit if like me you scratch the spots until they bleed, but It does dry them out really quickly and within a few days you can hardly see anything. I had given up on all the creams and things as nothing seemed to work until my sister told me about using the handwash. HTH

  • The coke will be playing a big part with your skin troubles, try and limit it if you can.

Bio oil is meant to me good at reducing scars

Hi thanks for everyone's comments so far.

I do think all the coke is playing a big part in the out break of spots that I am getting at the moment. However I do have a coke addiction and i am addicted to caffeine 100% (thats my next challenge to give up coke). I don't drink tea or coffee however I can not function in the morning without a can of coke to get me started for the day.

When I was younger my doctor used to prescribe me Quinoderm however that don't seem to work as good as it used too. Ive just discover they do a facewash I might give that a try http://www.quinoderm.co.uk/treatment_04.htm

I have been using sudacrem for the past few nights however its makes my skin greasy and look like someone has fried an egg on my face.

Ill have a butchers at the website above and get some tips and hints :-) I had a friend who had a course of acid peels i might consider that if its gets to out of hand lol

I'm 25 and have been using Panoxyl/Aquagel (2.5) for quite a while and it really has helped me. I used to get a lot of spots around my jaw area and they have calmed down a lot (I still get some, but no where near as many).

When I first started using it I was prescribed the higher strength (5 - they also do 10) and I had to stop as it was making my skin really red, dry and quite sore, but then tried again with the 2.5 strength and have carried on ever since.

I do find it can dry your skin out a bit, especially if you put it on the same area time after time, but I try and balance it out with moisturiser and it seems to work.

The only other thing I would say is to be careful of fabrics as it can (and does) bleach dyed fabrics! I only tend to use it at night and have managed to bleach part of one of my duvet covers (doh).

A combination of using doublebase at night, and sudocrem during the day helped clear up eczema (not acne) on my little boy's shoulder when he was a baby.

Have you thought about natural products. Lush do some great ones for troubled skin. Fresh Farmacy, Aqua Marina, Dream Cream, and Dream Wash, are ones I can recommend as I have used all of them. I don't suffer from acne, but I am careful with what I put on my skin as I have had the odd patch of eczema in the past.

I sometimes use sudocrem as a mask overnight. It does calm my skin down a bit but I don't think it helps prevent spots at all.

Maybe its worth visiting the GP for some presciption treatment, many of the acne treatments you can buy contain the same ingredients so you could be wasting your money.

Thank you everybody for your help.

I went into the chemist earlier to ask for some Quinoderm face wash i'm going to try that for a few weeks and see what happens and use the Sudocrem of a night whilst im getting my "beauty sleep" :p.

I don't get loads of acne however when I do get a the odd spot its HUGE and generally in a sensitive place on my face like next to my nostril or something :rotfl:

If I have no joy ill try some of the products mentioned. As I don't want to spend a fortune on Garnier and Clinique products and the likes of if there not going to work as I would like them too.
