good experiences of ESA medicals??

hi all,

i read a lot of bad things about people having bad luck at ESA assessments by ATOS ORIGIN but who has had a "good" experience so to speak??

i cant believe they really are that rubbish :rotfl:

its been ok twice for me - the lady showed me through and we were done quite quickly.. she also had the letter from my gp infront of her.
2 esa medicals passed successfully (support group - it can be done!!)!! :j

All I would say is that you are very, very lucky!
The last time that I saw figures of failing the medical it was something like 80 out of 100 fail it. I may be wrong, and no doubt someone will correct me.

You don't want me to list what my ailments are - suffice it to say that the most easilly managed one is mental illness and I have in the past been sectioned under the mental health act.

I failed completely! Maybe it was because I told the medic that he was in danger of being thrown out of the window with the way he was talking to me and not listening!!!

Still, got the Appeal coming up at the end of this month but don't hold out much hope. I will have to get sorting some evidence out and ask my GP for a letter.

    oh dear :(

i dont know how many points i got - but i do wonder how far above 15 i was  mine was for MH too

1st thing the woman said when i got into the medical room was something like "oh yes weve heard from your doctor and you havent been having a good time of it by the sounds of things" and i was a bit suprised because she seemed almost human from it :D

I too had a good medical - it wasn't for MH but for COPD. The doctor I saw was really nice and knew a lot about my illness. She made me a cup of tea because it was a cold day and I was struggling to breath and she also arranged for a taxi to take me home. I was placed in the support group.

You cannot equate failing the medical with having a bad experience!

I have to say i had a good medical too. In fact i had one for DLA 18 months ago as well and that was fine, although that one was done in my own home.
I had my ESA medical done by a nurse, i was surprised when i got there that there were only a couple of other people in the waiting room.

I asked for a copy of the medical report and it was pretty much exactly what happened.

One question i have is how do people know how many points they got?

I had the letter telling me i had been put in the work focussed group, and i have the copy of the report, but dont see any points on it anywhere???

Phone up the DWP and ask for a copy of a breakdown of the points. At one time the points calculation used to be done on a sheet of paper which could easily be photocopied but presumably it's now done on computer and they should be able to give you a print off.

Perhaps the thinking is that it would lead to a large increase in queries.

The points are normally disclosed if you are appealing against a Work Capability Assessment, they are usually included in the papers sent by the DWP. That seems to be the only time they are routinely sent out by the DWP.

Well failing the medical WAS a bad experience for me as well as being a BAD experience in being treated as some idiot that did not know what was wrong with me and completely ignored everything I said.

The guy was rude and bombastic, and God help the patients if he worked in the NHS - he had no bedside manner at all. He makes consultants appear as your best freind!

There must be others that are better at their job - it was probably my bad luck to have him!!

I had an IB medical, and that went OK. I think she was shocked when she asked what would happen if I got told I had to go back to work and I started crying. Didn't help that it was in a new place and I'm not good getting to new places (MH stuff also)
