02 and the new cap on 3G internet
Hi,
If anyone now upgrades with 02 you end up on the new tariff which means your 3G Data (any data) is capped and anything over this you have to pay.
I called them today and said that was i was still on an old tariff this would remain unlimited until i upgraded, they advised that in october everyones data will be capped regardless of the tariff, i asked if this was legal and they said yes.....
can they just change a contact that you signed up to?
comments?

going to ring o2 myself to check as it would be a bonus to walk away from contract with no penalty, however i have found this article that suggests it is only after upgrading that unlimited data will cease.

This may not be the case. if they make you aware of the changes now, which is 2 months before the caps are enforced and you still take out the contract then there won't be any come back. O2 have already begun removing unlimited data from their website. so it's buyer beware and read the t&c before signing on the dotted line.
if you signed up before 24th june then you would still have unlimited for the duration. any new or renewal after this date will have the cap inplace.0 -
I've spoken to O2 about this. They confirmed that my data limits would NOT change and I would continue on the unlimited tariff until my next official upgrade date.
Hope this helps. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I was also told by O2 CS that the new caps were only applicable to iPhone4 users, hence the introduction of the new data tariffs on the 24th June. But their website indicates otherwise, and I wouldn't trust the CS person's word over their own publicly announced rates.0
