Cheapest way to heat one room

Hi
I sometimes work from home, and during daytime in the winter would be happy to heat only 1 room in my house. My last gas bill for central heating was expensive. Would it be cheaper to buy a stand alone electric/gas/halogen heater and use that instead of the central heating? If so which would be best?
Grateful for any suggestions/advice. Thank you

Depends what method of CH you have. If it is conventional radiators, why not shut off all radiators in rooms you do not use?
Better still fit thermostatic valves to each radiator(assuming you do not already have them) and you can individually set the temperature in each room.
In general terms the cheapest method of heating is what you already have - gas CH.0
