Hi there and thank you for that!
My confusion was that everyone seems to be on different prices for kwh you see, for instance i pay 20p per kwh (up to 125kwh) but no standing charge and my parents pay 11p but with a standing charge of 18p per day so i was dubious of what price this (or any other) website were using as a reference? Not yet a total moneysaving expert...but im trying!!0 -

Ah yes, appreciate the confusion. It's best to ignore the Tier 1 prices though - everyone has to pay standing charges in some form, so concentrate on Tier 2 - or your parents 11p per Kw/h. If your parents pay by DD and are now on a credit meter (did they change?) then they likely get a discount for paying by DD, thus making the price less than the 11P that you state. 10P is a good ball park for comparison purposes.0 -
Thanks for that!
I think this is what further confused me:
http://www.which.co.uk/home-and-garden/kitchen/reviews/fridges/indesit-tfa1/specifications
It says annual running cost is £13 so that would mean it uses 130kwh but that wouldn't make sense as it is only an A rated one and not A+ which is what i would expect from a fridge that only uses 130 kwh per year, if you see what i mean? Not yet a total moneysaving expert...but im trying!!0 -

Hmm, pinch of salt needed there I think.
The running costs can only be "best estimate" as they will have run the fridge under test conditions for only a short time, maybe a week and extrapolated out the annual running cost. I'll bet they never had the same ambient conditions for each and every fridge that was tested etc. It doesn't say either what they base their running costs on - is that with the fridge in use i.e. door being opened & shut, full of food etc.
It's a guide only. With modern fridges you'd be far better looking for something that suits you in the way of price, looks & practicality and feel assured that manufacturers HAVE to build them with environment & running costs in mind nowadays - so no modern fridge is going to be excessively expensive to run.0 -
Further: Just found in the FAQs with regards the energy rating.Energy-label rating
Given by the manufacturer for energy efficiency. An A++ indicates the most efficient category. Our previous tests have shown that these ratings are not always accurate, so check our running costs measurements.0 -

Hi everyone, just an update as we have nearly come to the end of the (very long) line:
My mum's current fridge uses 880kwh per year, this is being replaced on Wednesday with a fridge-freezer that uses a quoted 260kwh.
This should bring the weekly usage down by around 11 kwh.
Next i believe that my dad is thinking of replacing his fridge-freezer and small chest freezer (1460 kwh per year) with a a single fridge-freezer that uses a quoted 260 kwh per year.
This should bring the weekly usage down a further 23 kwh!!:p:money:
Also, i've just signed them up to EDF which should change their current monthly bill of £65 to £52!!
Now then, did i read something about a power saving plug for Desktop computers somewhere please? Not yet a total moneysaving expert...but im trying!!0
