ford focus cmax diesel problems!!

i have a 2004 54 plate cmax 2.0tdci zetec.

the car has 112000 miles on the clock and for the 2 years ive had it has been fine.... until it started hesitating which has then got worse up until now when it cut power whilst i was accelerating from some traffic lights!!!

when it cut the power i was pressing the pedal and nothing was happening , so i managed to pull over and turn the car off and left it a minute or so, restarted and it ran ok apart from the hesitation.

i continued my journey for the next 60 miles ok , when i pulled off the motorway the engine management light came on but the car didn't cut out or anything??

the light stayed on for a day or so and then went off, the hesitation is still there though.

i have a friend with a code reader and he scanned the car and it gace one fault code p242f ????

any ideas what this is??

i had the dpf fluid refilled last year so it cant be that??

mpg has dropped to from 54mpg to around 44 mpg.

i can hear the egr valve cycling when i turn the car off too??

help!!!!!!

cheers

steve

That fault code is dpf restriction related, not sure if it can be cleared or if dpf needs renewing though?

any ideas if i can replace the dpf myself as im reluctant to spend any money at a ford dealer!!

i believe its bolted to the exhaust just behind the cat, is it just a bolt on job or do ford need to do something with the computery bits??

i think you can change it yourself there is nothing that needs doing to the ECU apart from resetting the fault code, but any decent garage with a code reader or even your mates if it has ability to perform this procedure.

not sure if you are aware but DPF usually need replacing around 80k miles due to being clogged cost at ford is roughly £1500 fitted.

    thanks for the reply.

i think we are getting confused here.

are you talking about the egr valve which is on the back of the engine?? if so i believe that is working fine as i can here it clicking and whining when i switch the engine off which its meant to do according to ford.

the fault code im talking about relates to a dpf filter which is located in the exhaust im led to believe , the emssions fluid is pumped into this and the gases are burnt off.

the code is saying the dpf filter is blocked.

not really a question i can answer, personally i would be able to do it but i am qualified technician.it all depends on your mechanical capabilities and if you have tools, jack and axle stands etc

I am talking about the dpf that your fault code refers to,no confusion here never mentioned the egr valve.

hi thanks for the help again.

i think i ahve found th correct dpf for my car on ebay .....

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230488128823&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

so i had a quick look under the car at the exhaust system and i couldnt see the dpf housing ??

i could see what looks like the cat(has some sort of bash gaurd over it.

is the dpf meant to be in front of or after the cat??

on my car after the cat is a long centre section pipe.

im a qualified aircraft technician so know one end of a spanner from the other!!

if you could give me a run thorugh what i need to do that would be brilliant as im running out of time before i go to the falklands for 4 months and the car will then be left with the wife!!

    thanks again

    steve
