Cheeky so & sos - Car Insurance Renewal

Every year Norwich Union would call me up to quote for house and car insurance and every year they were really expensive. Last year, and now they are Aviva, they came out the cheapest so I insured both cars with them.

I received my first renewal today. Nothing has changed, no claims or convictions etc and the second policy isn't on max no claims so it had earned an additional year of no claims. Same cars, and now a year older too. The combined price was £200 more than last year!! Cheeky !!!!!!s!

I don't use comparison sites as they're expensive once you get a like for like quote (they look cheap until you bring the excess down to a reasonable level, add on protected no claims, legal cover hire car etc) and you get a million sales calls too. So, I called Adrian Flux who used to insure me when I had high performance cars, 4x4s and a custom built car (don't ask). They quoted me £200 lower, so about the same as last year but they are more of a specialist in high risk vehicles.

Direct Line, expensive as usual but still better than Aviva, not sure why I bothered with them really.

I then called Churchill as I moved my house insurance to them last year and thought they might give an extra discount as I have that policy with them. OMG! They are £400 cheaper than Aviva with the two policies combined (all small print the same) and my wife will earn back her no claims discount each year as a named driver! Just in case, I called around a bit more/filled in one or two online (many of them don't recognise my occupation online so it's easier to phone) and nobody can get within £200 of Churchill.

I assume that Aviva bank on you not shopping around at renewal and make their money in year two?

Bye Bye Aviva, Hello Churchill!

Read up on aviva's service (here and across the web) and you will see you have had a lucky break!

Thanks for that. Having now searched Aviva in the forums, I'm glad I have moved from them. I did wonder when I phoned to stop the renewal and spoke to someone I could barely understand in a foreign call centre, who couldn't care less that I wasn't renewing - he didn't even ask what I had been quoted.
