I placed an order on Nandiki.com - they have a good selection of cooking paste and mixes.:j
By the way, there is a Chinese section there too.

I think the best supermarket curry sauces are the loyd grossman ones they actually taste homemade. All the others I have tried have tasted synthetic and horrid.

I've bought some curry sauce at Spar shops. It's just like chip shop curry sauce/chinese curry sauce. Brand is Mayflower. It's in a cardboard box and says "9 portions" on the front and when you remove the sleeve you see it's in a plastic takeaway box, so you can just spoon out how much you like.

They do a medium curry sauce and a hot curry sauce. The instructions tell you how to add it to your food to cook .... but I've skimped and simply added boiling water to it before then poured it over my dishes and it's fine like that too. It's always about £1.

I googled Mayflower "curry sauce mix" and these people, among others, seem to do it (so you can see the box): http://www.tradewindsorientalshop.co.uk/acatalog/Curries.html

I purchased a couple of curry kits from a website called the asian cookshop- the curry tasted fantastic and it only required a pepper and meat. Kits are around £4 (which makes around 4-6 portions)
and there is free delivery if your order is over around £20.

For those who enjoy cooking try a book called 'The Curry Secret' we used to have a weekly take away but now make our own and they are better and of course a lot cheaper.
I have the book in a PDF file if anyone wants a copy PM me.

Curry Queen's recipe for a good Indian curry sauce is here. This recipe makes loads, and it's very concentrated so you can make a batch and freeze portions for later. Then you add different things for specific curries - it's all on the OldStyle board!

    It's only a game

Thank you for posting that website, I spent a couple of hours on there last night and they have some great things! I don't have any oriental shops near me sadly, so I think i'll be placing an order with them :)

I use curry paste. In my opinion it gives a richer flavour than the sauces and is more economical because I only need to use 3 or 4 teaspoonsful per curry.

Farm Foods sell the medium one for a quid too. It's not bad, good for when you're feeling lazy. I usuallly add some fresh ginger & chilli to it as it's got a mild flavour.
