Sorry, DH was talking tv's, yawn!

Ben is a July boy as you know, therefore the youngest boy in the class. He started school in the January so was behind from the beginning. Our school is extremely popular and very full of kids from miles around so the head struggles with numbers every year. Ben is due to go into KS2 in Sep but his teacher (a good friend) has told me in confidence that as the head is struggling to fit them all she is propsing to keep Ben back with 2 other boys both of who have extreme behavoural issues. Ben is an average boy, bit cheeky, no malice, never really bad and never rude. He has started to work hard and is only one level behind in reading than my friends son who is almost 2yrs older, in fact by the end of the week he'll be on the same level. I also know already that he got a 2a in his numeracy Sats, average would be 2b so considering his age compared to the others he's done amazing although he is behind in literacy. She is planning to catch me unawares in the playground and trying and get me to agree quickly but I think socially as much as anything I need to fight it, but it might get messy!

Tara- what does his teacher think? does she think he will be well able for the next year's work?

i think it would be counter-productive if he has caught up so well.

Hmm, sounds unfair to keep kids back due to numbers!!!! How much power does the head have to do this? I would hope that they can't implement it without your consent!

The teacher is concerned it will hold him back, she has graphed his progress to show the head, it was a gradual gradient for the first year but in the last 6 months he's shot up through the scale as he's settling down. She has put it down to changing who he works with in class, on her recommendation from Octobers parents evening I was to encourage different friends so we had others boys round for tea so he made friends with the those that had started in the September and avoiding the 2 boys with issues as they are really naughty. Now the head wants him to stay with them breaking his new friendships.

He is very excited about having his own shelf and the last 2 mornings he has been bouncing with excitement as I open the living room door and then rushing headlong for the bookshelf and grabbing a book shouting 'THOMAS' (he always goes for the Thomas books, no matter where they are!).

He is very cute and when he gets to the page where Thomas is all dirty he say 'oh-oh' :A

    awww - that is cute!

Josh used to love Thomas but he didn't like the one where Scruffy the truck was naughty and he fell to pieces. He found that really upsetting :D

James is named after the red engine as Josh insisted he had to be called that!

I don't think Alice has appreciated the scale of our world map yet. Today she wanted to go and "have a quick look at Germany".

Charlotte is like that. She keeps wanting to "just pop over to Turkey" :rotfl:

Yay - well done Rhys :j

Photos - One wall of the dining room is the "family wall" and there are a large range of pictures on there. Not really got them anywhere else as I don't like too many pictures.

Hope you get that sorted out Tara. I would feel uncomfortable about having him held back.

On the subject of reading, here's Charlotte "reading" at just 5 days old :D

    10thMay3.jpg

She's still a bit yellow in that pic as she had bother with jaundice when she was born.

She and the boys have had books since birth, and the boys are excellent readers, so I'm hoping Charlotte will be too. She can already read some letters but not words yet.

She knows some books by heart. Sometimes my brain works quicker than my mouth, so I'm reading way ahead of what I'm saying and end up accidentally missing bits out. She normally pipes up and says "but you never said the bit that goes........" :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

My P isnt working properly, I have to really punch the button, so if I dont make sense you'll know why!

DH always reads over my shoulder and asks me what the initial and abbreviations stand for. He just asked me what a P was :rotfl:

    Well done Christopher :T

Tara I would object to Ben being held back when he's done so well catching up. Sounds like it would hold him back to keep him back IYSWIM.

We are taking Alfie swimming for the first time on Friday. Looking forward to it but not the swimming costume :o

Going to see Gymfiend and Guy tomorrow :D but should be on first thing and then tomorrow afternoon.

    Night x
