Stupid overseas buyer expect to pay UK postage rates.

Hi, I sold a blouse on Ebay with a UK postage cost of £3.50.
It clearly states on my auction that international buyers should request postage costs before placing a bid.
An American woman won the garment for £1.24 and proceeded to pay for the goods by making up her own postage costs of £4.74.
Needless to say I refunded her payment and sent her a new invoice with the correct postage amount which she is now arguing over.
She claims postage is £3.50, clearly she believes the states is a mere annex to the UK.
Even if this was the case why had she paid £4.74 then?
How does that woman get out of bed without falling over?
My concern is if I end up filing a NPB she can use her initial wrong payment as proof of purchase.
Why is it always the Yanks that give problems----sigh

As her payment has been returned you can file an NPB.
However, I would suggest that you now raise a new invoice showing the correct postage, make sure you do it properly through ebay so it shows in the records. Then if she pays that, despatch her goods, if she doesn't then you can easily go through the NPB process.
I 've had a number of US people get confused over postage rates, I had one once tell me that they would not pay 'overseas' rates as they were not overseas as they were in the US! To avoid this I now fill in all the postal options when I list, that means when they check out the correct post and packing is picked up on the invoice depending on their country of origin. It leaves less room for dispute and means there are no delays in payment.

Im sure i read something very similar to this before, perhaps its a bit of a scam where they are trying their luck and hoping they get a newbie seller who panics and ships at a loss ????

Yeah probably - she will probably realise what the case is and be trying it on - whenever you buy something from overseas you check what the postage rates are and ask before paying - or request an invoice. The way the buyer has gone about it is as though they know what they are doing to try and pay less postage!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Americans really are dumb.
My uncle lives in the states and when he tells anybody that he is british they all say "oh you've not come far then" " You can drive home whenever you want" GOD HELP US.
Also most americans don't realise their is an overseas as 80% dont have a passport.
Several people he has spoken to thought London was anouther name for the uk.0 -
And the obligatory question from Americans: "Do you know my friend John Smith?"We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

The french dont even have a word for entreponeur (spelling is bad i know)
thy have to explain everything to the simplest degree.
ie we had 12 inches or rain last night that is about a foot ( no you stupid tw*t 12 inches is exactly a foot)
and the way they put the state after the city ie i live in Houston Texas.

Of course we haven't had UK buyers acting dumb have we ? I've worked in the US and deal with them regularly and intelligent Yanks are like intelligent Brits - ask the man on the 59 bus / middtown subway an opinion and you will likely get an incoherent answer - its just that we have many cultures suitting on our doorstep (literally sometimes) and know that Paris is the capital of France. They can't survive as a nation without being good at something productive in the long-run.
Some Yanks may even have passports but why bother when you have a continent to explore ?
However I still have a US postal order waiting to cash from a seller who assumed I could cash them "at ANY US Post Office" ...0 -
Totally agree mrwibble, we have our fair share of stupid people here too!
I've worked in America and found the majority of people I met to be pleasant and intelligent (with exceptions as you'd find anywhere). Until earlier this year, US citizens did not need a passport to visit Mexico or Canada, so they have a whole enormous continent to travel around without any need of a passport. We just happen to need a passport to travel around our own continent.
Also I suspect they tend to say they're from "City, State" because in a country that size there's more than one place called a certain name, for example, there's a "Houston" in nine different states so it's sensible to mention you mean the Texas one. There are also five cities called "London" in the USA plus another one in Canada.
Incidentally, I have heard that the "World Series" is so called because it was originally sponsored by a newspaper called "The World" (just like "Carling Premiership" etc) and the name stuck.
Although I do sympathise with you OP, must be really annoying no matter where they're from!0
