New Tesco Mobile Unlocking Policy
Well, new to me anyway.....
In April I was told by email that in order to unlock Tesco mobiles for free I had to activate it for 90 days and load it with £25.
The 90 day period is nearly up and now they tell me it's £20 or 1 year for a free unlock.
This is moving the goalposts and somewhat unfair. Do I have any sort of case since they have stated the "deal" in writing and now changed it?

Hi there,
I am in the same situation as you. I bought a TescoMobile phone in Feb this year and contacted them yesterday to unlock it to be told the same story as you. The T&Cs have been changed recently but I'm not sure when, as the current version on their website states they are effective from a date in September 2006, so they have tried to backdate the changes!
Regarding the unfairness of this, they state that they are allowed to change T&Cs at any time and any changes apply to new and existing customers. I'm not a lawyer but I believe there are rules about unreasonable terms in contracts: this could be one. Especially as they also state that they will contact customers to give reasonable notice of any changes and give customers a choice to accept or reject the changes, by continuing to use the service or not.
I intend to contact them by email and point out that they have failed to notify me of the changes and they should honour the T&Cs in force when I bought the phone in the interests of good customer relations. I will report back on their response.
In case a follow up is needed it would be very useful for me to have a copy of the email they sent you (minus your name & contact details of course) if you still have it. Would you be willing to do that if I pm you my email address?0
