SOLVED - McAfee expires soon

Daughter's Dell laptop (running Vista) came installed with a 2 year subscription McAfee anti-virus software. It is to expire in a week.
Which software do i use to make sure nothing is left behind.
What is a free alternative? Used AVG on my other laptop (XP) but found it is now bloated and slows it down so switched to Avira.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Avira + malwarebytes.
Also use the mcaffee removal tool after uninstallation of mcaffee http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS1005070 -
Try Microsoft security essentials, a free download. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I use avast. Been using it for years and never had any issues. It looks after itself with updates and you never notice its even there.0

I find Comodo Internet Security good but it doesn't seem to have much of a following here :-)0

I could never advise somone use comodo as ive never seen it compared to anything. Ive not seen ANY independant tests on it yet.
Comodo make a fanastic firewall, but I very much doubt their av software is as good as the best out there:idea:0 -
Good point. Not an AV expert but there are some test results here - anyone fancy turning into plain english .... they look ok from the headlines but you never know

Thats the 'defense' side of comodo
Nothing to do with viruses (Well I suppose technically it is, but its got nothing to do with finding and removing viruses):idea:0 -
