p.s. gingerdad, have you tried the Ice Cream Farm at Natland Mill Beck Farm in Kendal (opposite Asda) ?0 -
nope didn't know it was there, will have to pop in and have a visit.
we have a very good guide at work to all the ice cream sites in the north west "cool about ice cream" produce by North west fine foods

Also, try Rheged near Penrith which has giant IMAX films and a mountaineering exhibition.
On the food theme there's also a chocolate factory nr Orton but they do have a shop in Penrith.0 -
Was out in Kendal yesterday and found a new and very good indoor play area for the young'uns. Its calles Playbase Jungle, and is in the old Job Centre opp Homebase. the best thing is in September it's free. Its much better than either the fun factory or giddy kiddies. no smell of wee for a start off.

Duckys and the playbarn at settle are aslo both wee free smell so far. but i know what you mean, though the seem a little more switched on

if you like nice home made cake thats not expensive visit the Station House pottery on the A65, near Kirkby Lonsdale, opp the Whoop Hall Hotel. they do some lovely homemade cakes.
and depending on how old your little one is they can have fun painting a pot
