Verbal Warnings

I was given one of these a few days ago and I feel it is very unfair.

A lot of lies have been said for me to get it, I don't listen to orders, refused to do any extra hours and basically won't do anything anyone else tells me to do.

Is it worth doing anything about it or should I just forget about it? I'm lucky that it wasn't a written warning apparently.

I wouldn't be that bothered about it, but this means I can't go to the university that i wanted to.

Thanks

It would help if you gave people a clue on what you are on about, i.e. where you work, why it will effect uni, how is it lies etc, helpful we may be, psychic we are not.
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

yes it is very hard to see how a verbal warning at work will affect university entrance, not saying it absolutely can't but just hard to see how

How long do they stay on your record?? i have had a couple over the last few years for things which i did not really have control over, i.e the people working under me making a mistake that unless i was standing over them i would never have noticed, but the rules are that it is the person plus the supervisor who gets held accountable. These stay with me for 6 months, if the same thing happens again within this time then it is a written warning, leading up to dismissal, but after 6 months they can no longer be brought up again, so i do not really care.

The problem is if they are making up lies to get you a verbal warning, maybe they are going to come after you again and want rid of you.

The uni asks for a reference from my employer, as soon as they see this they won't let me in.

I don't really understand it all to be honest.
The hours thing really doesn't make sense to me. Basically we had a bit of a manic week and were really short staffed. I offered to do any extra but because of the days and times I was working and the fact I was doing nights, i got told by another worker that the boss had said i couldn't do them. I should have asked him myself i know, but didn't think they would lie about it. I did actually do almost 20 extra hours that week so there's the first lie.

I don't listen to orders is another that has confused me, apparently, in this same week the boss suggested we try another method of doing something and i refused to even try it without giving any reasons.

I'm gonna ring my boss and talk to him about it again just to sort things out because I was a bit shocked by it all.
This has all been said by one girl and she thinks we're in competition with eachother. Its not the first time she has said something about me but the boss always takes her side for some reason.

Did your actual manager give you a verbal warning, or was it this other girl just saying that you had a verbal warning?

tbh I really don't see how (or why come to think of it) why your employer would even need to be contacted by the Uni ......personally I think you're worrying over nothing.

zingy, has the uni already asked for a reference from that employer?
or do they just needs a reference. If they haven't already asked this employer, can you just not give them a reference from someone else

Most university acceptances are based on your qualifications and it isn't a foregone conclusion that this would count against you, so don't give up an that yet
