Can I DIY repair Nokia 5800
I had a problem with the lcd screen on my 5800 and traipsed to the Carphone Warehouse on Oxford street where a man promptly said the warranty wouldn't cover it as I had cracked the screen. I have no idea how it happened as I've used it the same as I always have. I've never shoved it in a trouser pocket as it's too bulky.
Anyways, now that they've refused repair and I'm guessing there's no point trying to get Nokia to even look at it, can I just buy a replacement screen off ebay and repair it or because it's a touchscreen phone it needs to go to a shop?
Carphone warehouse quoted £65 to repair the screen and it would take 2-3 weeks

If you're technically minded and can use a soldering iron you can repair most electrical items. I don't know what the internals of the 5800 is like, but I think most LCDs are just ribbon cable connected, so it could just be an easy snap off and on process to replace.
I did spot the 5800 (refurb) on Three.co.uk website for £109 PAYG, but would mean it'll be locked to three. But a good alternative if your one fails to repair.
Good luck. Hope the repair goes well.
edit: Just had a look at a picture of a replacement LCD. Its just one ribbon connector, looks simple enough to replace and reasonable priced around £40. If you can find a market stall close by they may be able to replace it for you at a good price.
I remember it cost me about £100 to replace the touchscreen on a phone I bought in HK and didn't include shipping, that was a few years back though.0 -
Hi there
If they are saying you mistreated it, you can ask them for a copy of their report on the phone. This should confirm how the damage was done. If you can link that back to an incident, you may be able to claim for a new phone off your home insurance. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

I'm not one for claiming on insurances for small sums. But I'm assuming it'll affect your no-claims discount and claims history in the same way as it does for cars, which no doubt would increase next years home insurance premiums by more than the £40 odd it takes to replace the screen?
Otherwise I should look into insurance claims a bit more in future
