I own a little Nokia 1100 PAYG O2 which is ideal for me, as I dont want an all singing all dancing phone. Recently the phone has started "switching itself off" whilst in my bag or if placed on a hard surface. It also "freezes" when texting which can only be rectified by switching off and back on again. Teenage relatives who know EVERYTHING about gadgets tell me that it is the sim card , however I am loather to get another card as I have loads of credit still on it £20 ish and it means telling everyone my new number all over again. Anyone know what I can do ?? The phone is about 2 years old .
Hope someone can oblige with some advice .

I wouldn't have thought this was the sim card, as far as I know the sim just holds the information (contacts, txt messages and the likes), I would say it is your handset that is that problem. Try your sim in another phone or put another sim in your phone and see if it still happens. Maybe someone with more knowledge will be able to give you an exact answer.

  • The phone switching itself off is definitely a handset fault. You can get this repaired but as the phone is over 12 months old you would get charged for this... you may find it cheaper just to buy a new handset.

And for clarification, if a sim goes faulty your network can send you another with the same number and credit on, so even if it had been the sim Lady E you wouldn't have lost the credit x

  • There are loads of Nokia 1100 on ebay for around £10, or you can get another new one on the same network for around £20-25 and put your sim in it :)
