Aww i'll just scan in the photo from last year's card then!0

What is the point of this really, i just show my Uni card for a discount at places like burtons etc and they never ask for my NUS!!!!!
Seems pointless to me0 -
Do you think its possible for non students to get a NUS card? I just put my details in with a local uni and course but you have to pick the card up from the union office.Would they check that you are actually enrolled on the course ?:p0

When was that then? You had to pay £10 for an NUS card if you were a Salford student last year. The year before that I got a joint library card and NUS card as a result of the merger between UMIST and Manchester which I didn't have to pay for but I think I had essentially already paid for it since I paid a membership fee to UMIST students association when I started to course, I think it was included in the tuition fees. I could be wrong but I think it has been the case for many years that you had to pay for NUS membership and if you didn't directly pay it to the NUS it was only because you'd already paid to your university students union (possibly without having noticed) and they paid the money to the NUS on your behalf.Diminutive wrote:the standard NUS card for university students used to be free and get your all the discounts.
Not everywhere will do this. Most places won't accept a Salford card as proof of student status because there's no expiry date on it. It could be that your student card is a joint library and NUS card like the Manchester ones.Chris2287 wrote:What is the point of this really, i just show my Uni card for a discount at places like burtons etc and they never ask for my NUS!!!!!
You can try it but I think they'll ask for your registration number or to see your library card.Aletank wrote:Do you think its possible for non students to get a NUS card? Apparently it's being done to give extra funding to local unions - but our union's absolutely loaded! It's got so much money it's quite literally having trouble spending it all - and it's a hugely commercially successful business (although all the profits go straight back into the union facilities)
I don't think the local unions need the extra cash, they should be providing it themselves through their ents, not forcing students to hand over the cash for not much in return! Our Union works very hard to be competitive commercially, and it's got some of the most popular club nights in the region (and even the country, according to mixmag and the guardian) for both students and non-students.0 -
