NUS website updated - New NUS Cards and Discounts

Just checked on the NUS website (nusonline.co.uk) and it seems there's now going to be 3 different types of student cards.
I think it costs £10 for the NUS Xtra Card (the only one worth having)
But there's now loads of new discounts available (10% pcworld, 25% off rental laptops)
Plus there's also an ISIC card thrown is for free too, which also gives you many more discounts.

If ure going to uni the nus extra is the card u want, if you look at the others theres the associate card for 6th form and OU and theres the democracy card that basically says ure a member of a SU. So for uni student the extra card is the best.
Un fortuantly for me I got a ISIC card about a month ago for £7 as I was going overseas and now i've come back and want to get a nus card i have to fork out £10 for something i've already got half of!! I emailed NUS but they said they would give no discount and suggested contacting STA (the people who distribute ISIC cards) and asking for a refund, which I did....resulting in a no :T oh well, didn't moneysave on that one then!0 -
I'm glad they are finally recognising 6th forms.
Theres this middle bit between being at school and being a university student where the financial help goes to pieces. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
They've always had the associates card for the sixth form students... I've had one for two years. They are pretty poo, alot of places like pizza hut don't accept them.
This whole NUS extra thing is them just trying to raise more money... the standard NUS card for university students used to be free and get your all the discounts. The NUS actually need to start listening to SU's to stop even more withdrawing.~Diminutive0 -
It is a bit of a con, I admit, but they're useful nonetheless, and make a good ID card, if only they had DOB on them!
If any of the SUs around the country are in debt like ours claim to be, they'll be grateful to make a bit of profit on them, and I think that £10 a year is good VFM considering what the SU provide.0 -
I ordered an NUS extra card last night. You can do it online by plugging in your webcam or uploading a photo.
Your DOB IS on these ones. It asked me for it when signing up, and it shows you a preveiw of what your card will look like, and it contains your name, college, DOB etc.
It doesnt ask for proof of age so I imagine you could fake your DOB, but i have not yet found anywhere which accepts NUS cards as proof of ID.0 -
Does anyone know if I can join the NUS? I'm 36 and doing a HND in Travel and Tourism by correspondance course.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
