  • If you accept paypal then I'm afraid you have to accept cc's. You could wait until someone pays you with a cc and then upgrade, but people will and probably sooner than later as many buyers are getting more clued up about it being safer to use a cc on ebay. If you don't accept, then a buyer has the right to report you as a non performing seller.
  • If you don't want to accept payments via PayPal using credit/debit cards just don't tick the 'I accept PayPal' box. If you want to accept PayPal without a credit/debit card then in your auction listing you can say that you accept PayPal but only if they are paying using an exisitng PayPal balance and not a credit/debit card.

how much does it cost to upgrade your account to accept cc's? I am only listing a few things but if it go's well then i might list more.

  • You don't actually pay to upgrade but you will be charged 3.4%+20p on each payment that you receive.

    Not according to ebay:

Important: If you offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) we recommend that you accept all forms of PayPal payment including account balance, bank account transfer, and credit cards.

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/paypal.html

So nothing to stop you ticking the box, but saying in the description 'no credit card funded payments' as it is only recommeded that you accept them. Mind you nobody who buys anything will understand and you will ping the paypal balance back and forth and somebody will end up cross.

Sorry Altarf but re read what it actually says...the cut and paste means that you can accept paypal and limit it to balance transfers only if you put that in the text, it doesn't say you can tick the 'I accept paypal' box, it merely says you can use paypal and say so in the text of the auction, I believe this is what cafenervosa does, and can advise further.

This is the link you want:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html

    Seller Non-Performance:

When a seller lists an item on eBay, and a buyer bids for and wins that item, the seller and buyer have entered into a contract. Both members are expected to honour that contract. In accordance with that contract, the seller may not:

Fail to deliver an item for which payment was accepted.

Significantly misrepresent an item by not meeting the terms and item description outlined in the listing.

Refuse to accept payment for an item at the end of a successful sale.

Refuse to accept a buyer’s PayPal payment using a credit card if the seller included the PayPal logo in the listing which signifies the seller will accept PayPal payments. Sellers are not permitted to state in their listings that PayPal payments made via credit card will not be accepted.

So if you tick the I accept paypal box, you must take all paypal payments or else you can be reported as a non performing seller.

  • :O They must have changed it, sorry! You used to be able to say you will accept non-credit/debit card payments in your auction description.

Maybe soolin and razorbladekisses are both correct?

Soolin quotes from the t&cs that sellers are not allowed to state in their listing that they 'do not accept credit cards'......

That doesn't mean, presumably, that you cannot do as razorbladekisses says and state that 'I only accept paypal payments made directly from a credit balance or from a Bank account'.

    Is this OK soolin?
