A size 12-14 and a 32 back size? Where on earth are you all getting your bras? I'm a 32 back size and a size eight! I'd have said (based on other women I know) that size 12-14 would be about a 34-36.[/QUOT
One of my family is a size 8/10 and she wears a 32, there was no way that I good wear that size back and survive the whole day lol. I think I am going to try bravisamo the next time I am in a town where they are.
Thanks everyone, all these posts are very interesting to read.0 -
Bravissimo is definitely the best - but only if you've got big boobs as I don't think they stock anything less than a D cup.
The good thing about them I've found is that they measure you but bring different sizes in different styles "This brand comes up a bit loose so I've brought a smaller back size... " etc. They really seem to know the stock and get what can fit. This is especially important as different styles will fit differently - I can't wear certain styles in any size!
John Lewis are definitely the next best for me.
Debenhams I didn't like - but more because they didn't have many nice bras!
Wherever you go, get the lady to explain why the bra fits / doesn't fit so when you try others you can be sure you're getting one that fits.Wins: CD...

I get measured in La Senza and now I don't shop anywhere else for bras. I am a size 10 on top and I am a size 32/34, when I was a size 14/16 I was a 36. I did get measured in M&S once, never again, none of the bras she bought me to try fitted properly, it was horrible.
In La Senza recently the assistant (who was about 10 years younger than me) helped me find a strapless bra which fitted perfectly, she suggested an air padded insert in just one of the cups to make my cups the same size, I'd never considered it before. I had no idea about the types of styles that suited me before, I'd pick the wrong style for my breasts (slightly saggy from years of yoyo dieting - sorry if that's too much info), but now I'm fairly confident about what does and doesn't work for me, and although I find La Senza a little more pricey than I'd like (recently paid £20 for nude strapless/multiway air padded bra) it's defo worth it.*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
The last time I was measured in M&S she made it the same as I was wearing 40F but even though she brought 9 different bras not one of them fitted me properly, so it's back to good old Triumph 'Doreen' for me...0

Well youre wearing the wrong back size. Youre probably more a 30, maybe less. You might have small boobs and be fine in a 32, thats your call. I've put people who are size 12's in 30's before, mainly because their breasts are so large they need it.0 -

I disagree, I'm a size 10 and I wear a 32/34 with a D cup, it's what I'm measured as and they fit better than any other bra's have before, I struggle to do some 32's up as a 10, and when I was an 8 a 32 fitted perfectly but I coudln't do up a 30. I can't see how someone who is a 12 would be able to physically do up a size 30 bra*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
I once went for a bra fitting in a department store and the lady was an absolute expert. I have big boobs and yet am petite. I was wearing a size 38 bra thinking that the bigger the boobs, the higher the size number (why do they make the sizing so complicated in the first place!!!!) This lady took one look at me and said "you're a size 32." I thought this was rubbish because of my big chest! However, she was completely correct and I measured up as a 32 DD. She fitted me with a beautiful bra that changed the whole way I looked for the better - no more saggy boobs!
She said she used to make bras and knew everything there was to know about them. Your boobs shouldn't spread around under your armpits - if they do then you're wearing the wrong bra. This area which is under your armpits and goes forward to your breast should be flat (if that makes sense!).
I really think they should change the way bra's are measured. If you measure under your boobs and it is 26 inches then why can't you look for a bra that is 26 inches instead of adding 5 or 6 to get the right size? Its so annoying! Plus, I can't buy the cheap bras you get from the cheaper shops or supermarkets because they never fit properly. In order to get a bra that fits properly and is comfy I have to spend £18 plus on one bra. My SIL who has small boobs can buy any bra from anywhere and gets all the bargains as long as they have her size.0 -

agreed but it makes such a difference to my clothes and confidence to be wearing the right sized bra it's worth the extra money, plus I don't go overboard, I've got 1 plain lace black bra, 1 plain lace white one, 1 nude multiway, 1 black polkadot one (which is my fave) and 1 plain lace red one, so 5 in total, which all fit me perfectly. I've also kept all my 32's which don't fit anymore since I gained some weight because I made the mistake of throwing away my 34's when i lost weight and then had to buy more when I gained some of the weight back (doh!)*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
I have to agree with everyone who's recommended bravissimo if you've got big boobs. Great at measuring and a fabulous range of bras.
I've a tiny waist and am "blessed" in the chest department - I'm currently wearing a 30Gso where I can buy is seriously limited and the size of my bust means I've got to wear a 12 sized top, they won't squeeze into anything smaller.
But then again, the sizes of all types of clothing varies from shop to shop and brand to brand (and even the same brand in the same shop!) so they best thing to always do is try something on firstThe debtWILLbegone - taking it 1% at a time
