M&s bra fitting

Options
I have read about how bad this place is for measuring but I was in need for a new bra and this was the closest shop I was near that did measuring. At the moment I am wearing a non wired full cup 34dd which is a pretty good fit. There were 2 woman workers having a chat when I approached and I waited for them to pause before I said I was looking for a new bra and wanted to check my size. So 1 woman said go to the changing room and take off your t-shirt. First she looked at my tag to see the size I was wearing then she measured me, she said I will put you to a 32 (I am no way a 32, I wear 12-14 tops) and then counted on her things and said a size e. She went and brought me a few bras, I askeed for non-wired and she said we dont stock them in 32 and gave me wired. I tried (and I mean tried) to put these on and seriously I couldnt breathe when I fastened them, with great difficulty. I wanted for about 5 mins and there were no sign of the woman coming back. I decided to put my own clothes back on and go. When another woman came and offered her advice. In the end she measured me at 34 e/f and yes the bra did fit but it was an underwired and I really wanted a non-wired. I decided to just leave and will go elsewhere. Point of my thread is I should have listened to advice and not got to M&S. Rant not over!

When I went she sent me to the fitting room and I stood there in my bra for a good 20 minutes before realising she just wasn't going to be coming back in the near future. So I got dressed and left and have never looked back.

Bras don't seem to fit me properly any more. In desperation I tried a supermarket where I tried 13 in my size before I found one that fitted.

  • I've heard M&S is shocking for fitting. Apparently they don't get the size right half the time. I found Bravissimo to be brilliant. Since they fitted me about 8 years ago, I've never looked back. I was flabberghasted at my size (much smaller back and much bigger cup than I had been wearing) but I can see that I now wear the correct size.

I found Debenhams to be good, didnt even need to take my top of and bra's fit fine.

Last year I got measured in La Senza, it was weird they only measure the size (i.e 34, 36) but not the..cup? (sorry not too familar with the different names) They jut bring in a load of different bras for you to try on i.e 34a, 34b, 34c until one fits!

I went and got done in La Senza last and they were good. The girl asked what size I was wearing at the moment, measured me in about three seconds (she probably could have done it by looking) and then brought me some bras in a couple of sizes and checked the fit again when I'd got them on. No waiting in the fitting room for her either, she came with me and waited outside the cubicle while I changed.

However I do prefer simply to know myself how to tell if the bra fits correctly, because all shops are different sizings and in some I can't get ANY of the sizes to fit me properly! When I find a good bra I go about buying it in all colours and when I need a new one go back to see if they still stock it!

Thesim, the girl who measured me basically looked at me for the cup size, and when I tried the bras she'd got it bang on.

Like JessicaFletcher posted I also think Bravissimo are fab. I went a month ago and was wearing a bra 38c and she measured me as a 34F it I feel marvellous now all my dresses and clothes look so much better. My daughter was also fitted. They said she was a 28D and not the 34b she was wearing. Same story she feels great after that. It feels so good once you have been fitted correctly.

at a 12-14 i would say a 32 would probably fit you fine. Especially with breasts E cup onwards.... The reason you probably couldnt "breathe" is that the cup was too small causing the 32 to feel unrealistically too tight. Although M&S do come up tighter than other places so it could also be that hindering the fit.

I would try bravissimo or debenhams...

I have found that each brand (and store) will fit me differently. It can mean I am as much as a cup size and chest size different- I'd say get measured wherever you decide to shop as the difference can make or break how a bra looks!

Have never been measured in M&S (well, not since I was like 12!) but really do rate them for comfort and lasting well. Maybe trial and error is a safer bet there!

Wow, interested to read this, I had never heard anything bad about M&S fittings, although took my little sis there for her fitting recently as I rthought they were good. We waited a good 20mins whilst they finished with someone else, and by the time we were called through, about 6 or 7 others were queuing behind us so they weren't exactly speedy.
And she suggested a range they didnt' stock in that store, so it wasn't ideal. But I didn't realsie they were reknowned for being awful.

Bravissimo are excellent. Highly recommended, get one from them and when you get used to how good "decent scaffolding " feels have a google and buy the same bra on line in different colours!! (you'll likely fine at least one that is reduced if you don't mind lime/purple/pink- I don't care what colour the bra is!).

BTW at a size 12-14 you could well be a 32 back. I'm a 14-16 at the moment and a 34 back (though have a couple of 32s for if/when I loose a bit of weight- when I was a stone lighter I was a 32). Almost everyone wears a bra too big on the underband, it needs to be pretty snug.

For non bravissimo fittings John lewis were great with my now 11yr old (who is 28B:eek:). M+S were apathetic and "couldn't fit her in" though the fitting rooms were empty (not good when you have an embarrassed we gil in tow). We did have a really confidence boosting "fun" fit in La senza with her but they couldn't supply anything that wasn't wired! THe fitter there was fab so friendly! (seeing your 10yr old in an underwired lime green number that fits is:eek::eek::eek: so John Lewis for the borning white bras it was!!).

A size 12-14 and a 32 back size? Where on earth are you all getting your bras? I'm a 32 back size and a size eight! I'd have said (based on other women I know) that size 12-14 would be about a 34-36.
