living abroad with an Isa.

Hi,
I'm currently living abroad and have kept my old abbey postal isa issue 1. I have not paid into it since moving abroad but have just noticed I'm getting 0.3% interest. I don't think I'm allowed to open a new one so how do I go about getting a better rate? Any help greatly appreciated.

regards
dc

You probably can't. You would need to open a new one and transfer it into that. Just about anywhere will ask you to sign an ISA declaration which involves you declaring that you are resident in the UK.
  • If you can't (and I don't know if there is a way you can!) withdrawing the money and putting it in the best paying non-ISA account would yield a better return, 2.8% from an Egg savings account even for an additional rate 50% taxpayer would yield a return of 1.4%, more than 4 times the 0.3% you are currently getting.
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
