I walked away from a Toyota test drive deciding it was too expensive - they called me a couple of days later with a lower price. Then a couple of days after that...I still bought a Honda though :)

we will see what saturday brings lol. i just know they will laugh me out of the place asking for 2.5k off. i doubt they will even give me 1k off.

i think i want to open a garage where it is all transparent and the price you see is the price you pay. factor in a small profit for the business but none of this haggle carp. everyone gets a good deal.

Why not get a quote online, and then use this in the dealership? It's worked for me before.

No, my brother is sales manager at a Toyota dealership.... A lot of people have been going in recently thinking they can get big discounts and saying things like "you know how Toyota have had bad press lately, what discounts are they offering?" or "you know how the motor trade is stuggling..... (guess the rest)"
These people have been laughed out of the showroom.

I had that...took them back a T-Spirit Yaris they'd sold me from new, and promised i'd get a great deal when i brought it back for part-ex.

Took it back and was looking for a Rav4.....they offered such a crappy deal it was insulting.....then said i wouldn't do better, smarmy know-it-alls.
Sold the Yaris for cash...bought a Fabia VRS from a broker online with £2k knocked off, 3 yrs later I can still sell it for 60% of the initial price, far outweighing any Toyota they had for sale at the time. And it's a darn sight better car.

Have you considered the Skoda Fabia. Skoda are currently offering a discount equivalent to the VAT so the 1.2TSI 105bhp Fabia hatchback with the 7 speed DSG auto gearbox (fantastic combination) with SE spec (aircon etc) is only approx £10,900 witout having to haggle

    That's a really good deal.....
    They're bring out the 7 speed DSG 1.4 180bhp VRS in a month.....probably about £14k online.
Toyota would probably charge £20K + for the same thing.

Yes, I second this. It worked for me too as the salesman is less likely to "con" you if you know what you want before hand and know what prices are on the website and what you'll be getting for your money. You can then try and haggle from there.

I've heard stories from mates that have tried this. Get several prices from online brokers and then ask the dealership to match it (or try to get them as close to it as possible). If they flately refuse, then print out a load of phone numbers for Toyota dealerships all round the country and try them. Someone will come up trumps.

You might have to travel to pick up the car. But if it means you save several hundred quid then its worth it IMO.
