In general EU countries only require your passport to be valid for the period of your visit. Specifics for countries can be found on the FCO Website

That can be said about any website. The only definitive answer is from the relevant embassy and not what an airline or website think

In this case the Spanish Consulate and the FCO agree.

I flew to Spain with EasyJet last year. At checkin the girl asked if I knew my passport would expire a month later. It wasn't a problem, she was just letting me know as a courtesy.

Actually, the last two times I have been to Spain the Immigration desks weren't even manned !

The cause of all this confusion (if I can Google it, or search MSE, why can't others ?????) is that one or two countries do require 3 or 6 months on your passport (why ???), then to cover themselves the travel agents and tour companies say six months is a requirement for everywhere.
It wasn't helped by the fact that a few years ago the USA agreed with some counties (UK included) that an (up to 6 months) expired passport would be accepted, in some cases, for entry/stay in the USA - and like many things on MSE some people read this via a fourth hand report and got it the wrong way round !!!

Although not in the EU, the Canaries are Spanish and passport validity for Spain applies I.E. only needs to be valid for the period of your visit.

    ETA

    From Spanish Consulate page
"Passports of all these countries (including UK passports) are valid to visit or stay in SPAIN up to the last day of their validity."
